Cheaper internet access is on its way

eish more and more promises. One a day nearly, is there nothing else to report on?

...and another one, and another one, and another one.

In other news the Zim Dollar's value fell and we'll have flying cars... someday

Ok - here's the deal. I have devised a simple test that will indicate two things with a single result.

It goes like this :
Is the normal price of 3G data 5c or less per megabyte ?

Yes = SEACOM is a success AND write more articles about it
No = SEACOM is not yet a success DON'T write more articles about it.

So people please, apply that simple test BEFORE writing anything about SEACOM and for that matter bandwidth prices in South Africa.

Thank you.

I support this test.

I agree that the Seacom story is getting a bit tired now but dont shoot the messenger.
Mybroadband is merely reporting on an article relating to Seacom that was written for less tech savvy users in a different medium.

The fact that there are so many articles referring to Seacom means that the everyone is starting to cotton on to the fact that Telkom and co have been ripping the proverbial out of the chicken and there is a much better general awareness regarding the state of broadband in the country. In my opinion the more Seacom articles the better.

IBIWISI

The powers that be will think up some legislation or the other hindering the price decrease [Telkom is their money machine after all].

Telkom is probably going to cry like a baby to the competition commission (after basically telling them they don't have jurisdiction over Telkom, ICASA has) about Seacom and it's cheap pricing.

Then guvva-mint will interject and only allow a "max" decrease in pricing, which will mean the price for broadband will decrease (sort of, Telkom would probably just push up "rental" pricing) but it will only decrease in the next 10 years or so

Next article to follow:

Telecom costs in SA is WAY more expensive than rest of the world.

As soon as we get past these two articles for the day, the real news wil follow.
