Cheapest ADSL data packages

I want to know... who has the best BALANCED package??? What I mean is it is all very well seeing these uncapped and lowest per gig package reviews, but who is providing the lowest and yet is ALSO giving better contention ratio's. My R29 Afrihost account used to be really good, now I am finding it is rather poor speed wise. The other day I was praising my SAINET account, and the whole of today and this evening, it has been crap. I see this happening more and more nowadays on these forums. Speeds are taking a hit. Possibly we should start wondering who is charging a little more, but giving good consistent download speeds?

The downside of all the cheap bandwidth is more people want to download more stuff. Guessing we may enter something like the Oz market. You get 60gb for example, but 20gb peak and 40gb off peak.

The performance could have been influenced by the broadcasted slow international connectivity on SAIX over the last 2-3 days ?

Snobee is right.
Cheap bandwidth but poor performance!
I am not a technical guru, but is it possible that we can somehow have a performance indicator? Like:
I allow my connection speed, ratios etc (including ISP name) to be sent live to a server. These are then collated with others and shown to the world.
Then we can see who is good and who is bad.
ISP's will then be forced to improve their level of service

Uncapped

I am currently on a 384k line with Cybersmart.
I pay R199 for 2 gig unshaped, free weekend downloads and a cap transfer of up to 3gig a month.
then I have a 1gig Afrihost account of R29.

my Download speed has been really pathetic the past couple of weeks.
I'm getting averages of 1.2 - 1.5kb/s.
I threatened them that I will take my business to antother ISP, and they have not responded.

So I need help to decide on which 384k ADSL uncapped package to go.
There are so many out there and they all throttle you.

Any feedback on this?

Thanks.

Web Africa 15 GB R199.00 - URL for that?

The Mweb guys seem pretty happy with their deal...

I'm still with Afrihost's R87 for 3 Gigs with WebAfrica as a pre-paid backup. Works for me.

Interesting that Axxess offer the cheap price from the 1st Gb!!!

Im on the Axxess lite (R19 per gig from the get go)
Ive got a 4Mb line, i really cant complain about the speed. On Saturday i was getting 400Kbps.
i usually use 3G per month. Im almost on 6G this month, and we not even half way.
And im starting to think in Gigs now... (when i save 10 bucks somewhere, "oooh, thats half a gig!") very sad..

I think, as Joe pointed out, the SAIX line been down doesnt help, but as bandwidth gets cheaper, it will get slower as more people get online and download more and more.
But more undersea cables will come online this year and in the years to come, and speeds will rise again, then fall again etc. Its a process.
We might not be at overseas standards ( Hong Kong, 1Gbps FTTH for R199!), but we getting somewhere slowly..

Can you now buy R10 axxess from pick and pay , or is it part of some or other bundle you have to buy ?
