Hi (first post on MyBroadband),
I have a MWEB Uncapped account that ive been using at my parents house until now, but i recently moved to a flat in Worcester (from bellville) and want to use my internet soon. A problem is that the house my flat is attached to does not have a landline at all (or so the landlord told me).

So anyway, I was looking at the Telkom Simple deal as a quick and simple (pun not intended) way of getting my internets back.
If someone could inform me whether the Simple deal is worth it or whether there is a cheaper alternative, i would be most gratefull.

Thanks a bunch ^_^

welcome
imo if you are a new customer no one's cheaper because both line rentals are bundled and there's no installation and connection fee. rather buy your own router and avoid locking yourself into a contract though

Srack0verflow: if you buy your own ADSL modem, can you then take the Telkom Simple without a contract?

You can also get the ADSL & telephone line installation done for free by taking one of the Telkom Closer packages - eg. Closer 1 @ R150pm

My suggestion is that you:
  1. Take Telkom Closer 1 for free telephone and ADSL installation @ R150pm
  2. 384kbps Telkom ADSL @ R152pm
  3. Go for a TP-Link router/modem by getting it from like Uniterm Direct. * Please note that their prices EXCLUDES VAT! You can get their items for slightly cheaper by buying from Bid-or-Buy, instead of directly from their website.
  4. 10GB IS local only from Axxess @ R75pm * The first 1GB includes international access, just like the Telkom Simple. The other perk is that if your ADSL line is stable enough, and your connection doesn't drop, then you get to keep your international connectivity ;)
This would add up to R377pm, where Telkom Simple is R369pm. You can always cancel the Telkom Closer option, which would save you R 16.70pm, but you have to keep it for the first month in which they do the line installations to avoid the installation costs.

With the IS (Internet Solutions) account, you should be able to play Mweb hosted games too, which you won't really be able to do with the SAIX/Telkom account, since they're not peering locally with Mweb, which means that your latencies would be a minimum of 300ms, instead of like 20-50ms.

Telkom Simple is just a bundling of existing products. I pay around R400 per month on my account for my line rental, 384 circuit, closer 1 plan (we use our phone) and 5Gb data from Telkom.

Telkom Closer 1 @ R150
Telkom Do2 @ R258 (DSL bundle)

Total: R408pm

* Do1 was R199 last time I checked and thats part of the Simple bundle
