? EMS

The problems are local, here.

Once your item leaves SA, the postal services out there, eg USPS are reliable and the local EMS number will be traceable on the USPS tracker site.

Otherwise probably if it's the US? FedEx Economy? There's also Aramex and DHL. You can phone around and ask.

What am I looking at approximately? Over R1000 or about R500

Airfreight is crazy expensive and shipping it can take some time. And then there is customs in SA if it can even make it to them because our ports have mostly fallen apart. And then there is import duty and with Temu and Shein they have become very jittery about import duty, so best you would need to ship it to you first and then sell it on from there.
BUMP, what is a good option to ship to Israel?

Dropbox.

If there is anything illegal on it they will probably plug it in to see what it is. Yes US Customs and Border protection would scan harddrives thats not destined to goto a repair agent known to them. And if its encrypted then they will delay processing till they can decrypt it. Welcome to the US of A.

DHL would be about R800-1500

It'll be encrypted, but nothing illegal.
Just want an offsite backup of my data.
It might be cheaper and easier too buy from Amazon and sync my data

They might have to get the nsa involved, not even sure if they'll be able to decrypt my cycling videos and family photos lol

Don't believe the BS some people say here. 99% of stuff is not 'scanned' or whatnot. That's pure scaremongering.
