Cheese

I guess... I mean I still eat supermarket cheddar heh - beggars can't be choosers etc. I just know the difference. All those Parmalat cheeses are a pale imitation of their European counterparts. I'd kill for a hunk of Gruyere right about now.

Sure, but for daily use, the Parmalat cheeses are just fine.

Go to the Cheese Gourmet at 71, 7th street, Linden, and try the "Huegenot" cheese. Then try everything else and buy a lot. Fantastic stuff.

I was going to post that. I love that place but cannot bring myself to leave without spending a fortune.

Sure .. if it had moar biltong in it. It seems to be extremely expensive re-processed cheese with shavings of dried something in it, could even be flavored bark. :D

Butlers is probably the best out of the lot that you can find in most local supermarkets.

I go with the Old English Cheddar (from Woolies if I rmbr correct) or a good Dutch Cheddar from th elocal Dutch deli.

Butlers is good too, but they can get expensive if you're using their extra mature cheddar on a daily basis...

Vintage Irish Cheddar is also pretty good. Kerrygold, I think. It's in black packaging.

The secret to a good white sauce for broccoli or cauliflower is a good mature cheddar, this is where restaurants and english wives fail every time and why a roast made by afrikaans wives are always tasty kekeke

Don't start on white/cheese sauce, that stuff will be the death of me. I'm very content with a simple bowl of cheese sauce, I&J Golden Smackeroos & McCain ovenbake chips :D

I dont understand what that means but if it translates into tough and overcooked then I would tend to agree. :)

Yeah, usually overcooked to a nice grey colour and dry as a mummified mammoths skin.

Is Butler's good? I can only recall seeing it once on the shelves. Will check it out if it is.
