Chinese scientists have announced a breakthrough in nuclear fuel reprocessing technology that could end the country's energy supply problems, state media have said.

The technology developed by state-run China National Nuclear Corp will enable the re-use of irradiated nuclear fuel, China Central Television (CCTV) reported on Monday.

The technology developed and tested at the factory in the Gobi desert in the remote Gansu province will be able to boost the usage rate of uranium materials at nuclear plants by 60 folds.

"China's proven uranium sources will last only 50 to 70 years, but with the new technology [the] existing detected uranium resources can be used for 3,000 years," the CCTV report said.

At least it cuts down on the nuclear waste.

I hope this is true. Since we have established links with China, maybe we can trade with them, help set-up our own working nuclear plants with this new tech.

We definately have the uranium thats for sure.

Agreed... If JZ had half a brain, he would be gunning for China/Russia/India to start bring in their technology into SA because of it's ideal placement to the rest of the world, and more importantly, because we will create the trade routes into the rest of Sub-Saharan Africa, and we can sell our resources at discount ;).

Although, we don't need this particular tech... We have quite a lot of Uranium since it's found near gold anyway ;).

Uhhh?

Apparently JZ is, aligning SA (or is it himself?) with BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India, China) countries and there's talk that SA will be joing BRIC so soon we might be talking "BRICS".

60 fold? I don't know about you guys but this is the best news i've heard in 2011, "hen hao" to them Chinese
