Can any one help me by giving me some good suggestions on a pc for gaming. What components are good and are going to keep up with others in the near future. I also want to know if I should choose intel or amd cause amd seems cheaper.
I'm looking to spend about R 7000. Excluding monitor and maybe excluding graphics card. I would apreciate it if someone or some people could help me with all components to have a completed pc.

Thanks

Hi nicolasinsa, the people here will be glad to assist you. What will be your main use/s of the PC? And where are you located in SA?

An Intel Core2 Duo 6600 is a good trade-off of price vs performance. Get at least 2x1Gb DDR2-800 RAM, a 160Gb SATA2 HDD and a well-known 500W Power-supply. If you're not including the monitor nor the gfx-card in the R7000, I'd suggest a bigger HDD. These parts, along with a motherboard, will put you close to the R7,000 mark.

I live in Cape Town. I mainly want to use this pc for gaming. Are there any shops located in Cape Town with good prices. I would prefer not to buy it online. Thanks for your responses

take2.co.za and buycomputers.co.za are both online shops located in Cape Town, generally they will have better prices than real shops. You can pick up in Milnerton (take2) or Diepriver (buycomputers).

The best deals are definitely online though, shipping is very cheap (or free) even from JHB and there isn't much of a risk, if any.

Take a look at a few past threads here, there are a lot on building PC's for around R7000. Depends how much you want to spend on the graphics card, as that is the main component for a gaming system, you want R3000 spare for a 8800GTS atm, best card to buy.

Well, for Cape town buying, I recommend terencvs. His online store is here. So you can check out prices, but you can also get him to order the stuff for you and pay cash upon pickup. He's in edgemead.

Thinking Of Buying

Hi,

I am thinking of buying a pc from buycomputers. I want to get:

Aerocool ExtremeEngine 3T Gaming Case
Cooler Master eXtreme 500w PSU
Intel Box Q6600 Core2 Quad Core 2.4GHz CPU-775
Microsoft Natural Ergonomic Keyboard 4000
Razer Copperhead Blue Mouse
KingMax 2GB DDR2-800 Special (2x1GB)
ASUS P5N32-E SLi nForce 680i Motherboard LGA775
Western Digital 160GB SATA or SEAGATE BARRACUDA 320GB SATA2 16MB HDD

Is there anything i've missed? I am not planning to buy a graphics card yet. Which hardrive would be better? The western digital costs more though. Has anyone got any better ideas(PC should not cost more)? Is this a good gaming machine that can keep up with the future? Thank you for the responses. Looking forward to hearing from you guys:):D

I have no experience with lightscribe but people that i know says it takes a huge amount of time to do the image which in the end they don't use the function.

What are you planning to do for a graphics card if you don't take one now?

I still have my older graphics card on my other pc, but that pc is used by my mom and me. It's a crappy one:mad:. If I will have some spare cash, then I might by the 8800GTS. What keyboard and dvd drive would you guys suggest?

Otherwise, would it be a good pc overall with that 8800GTS card?

for lightscribe : LG GSA-H55L 20x DVD-RW
for dual layer (up to 8.7GB disk): Sony DVD Dual Layer Writer

Keyboard: Logitech G15 Gaming is ultra pimp, but the Logitech UltraX Keyboard should do you fine.

@ zenbaas, welcome to mybroadband! please start your own thread, and we'll be more than happy to assist you.

Core 2 Duo E4500
Gigabyte P965 DS3
2048MB DDR2 800
Seagate 200GB HDD
Asus/XFX/Gigabyte 8600GTS/8800GTS

that will set you back about 8G's I think, not to shure souns right ;) you could add an Extra R1000 and get Quad core ;) IMO I would wait till nov when Nvidia has thier new range and 8series prices drop!

It looks fine, definitely go with the Seagate HDD.

But buycomputers isn't always the cheapest around, you might want to ask for a quote somewhere similar. Compare a few of the component prices at take2 or http://micts.co.za/index.php . That is if you're comfortable with building the PC up yourself.

However it is all a bit of a waste in terms of gaming if you don't get a decent graphics card. You can wait for your 8800GTS, but don't expect it to game that much better than your old PC if it uses the same card. Stil an amazing rig though :D

Well, I believe that board comes with a 6150 onboard video, wich should be ok for your olders games.

Def. go for the Gigabyte P965 DS3, ..SLI is a waste.
Then easily overclock the hell out of a E4320 (4mb cache) up to an almost guaranteed 3.0GHz, on stock cooler and very likely on stock voltage,
aand I'd recommend a 320mb 16mb cache HDD.

Yup Core 2 Duo + p965 DS3 = a match made in heaven! :D not many games support SLi and there is not much of a boost in performance form SLi
IMO i would rather get the Allendale E4500 2.2Ghz and push to 2.8/3.0Ghz

As for a HDD atleast a 200/250GB you can pick them up for R700!

For online shops you could try,

www.pc123.co.za
www.computersonly.co.za
www.buycomputers.co.za

Sometimes pc123 has some great specails ;)
