Christina Applegate has mastectomy

A family friend also had to do that. Heavy emotional effect ftl.:(

But as far as cancer goes its probably one of the more "fixable" ones to have compared to say lung cancer.

My sincerest apologies

Thought you were going to post a picture of boobs that would be a "loss to mankind" :D
Dont be shy clearly u know something we dont ;)

Shame this is very sad news and not because she is famous, it must be like having your penis cut off.

It's not like that at all. It all depends on the person. Also prosthetic breasts (breast implants) do wonders nowadays.

My Mom went through it. Its not something to be taken lightly. Imagine missing a part of your body because of some disease. Its the same as losing a foot or an arm. Just because she is a big star doesn't mean it will be any easier for her.

True, but a bigger bank account allows for a wider selection of plastic surgeons and psychiatrists to help you get over any issues. I also have
family who went through bilateral mastectomies which saved their lives.
I lost one aunt to cancer after she was operated in SA conservatively,
while another relative was done overseas and she recovered from her
cancer. Its better to be safer then sorry.

The fact that she has cancer is so dreadful for anybody to go through.
My aunt had a masectomy and eventually died as a result.
My heart goes out to her and her family.:(

As has my aunt Joey a couple of months ago. But the fact that she died hasn't been a loss to mankind. It sure was a loss to our family. But it wasn't to yours.

From here my statement of earlier with which many people still seem to have a problem with.

For instance GQ gave Kylie Minogue an "service to mankind award" and I sure as hell know they didn't give it to her because of her singing.

And to this effect one can argue that the masectomy that Kylie had can be seen as a loss to mankind.

The argument I made about Applegate was that I don't think that her breasts were that great to begin with and thus is not a loss to mankind per se ... although it is still devastating to her and her family.

That is insensitive.

And disgusting.

why, if you read the article, she said it herself.
You need to get off your high horse, not everything about boobs and cancer is insensitive and disgusting

"I'm going to have cute boobs 'til I'm 90, so there's that," she joked in the interview, which aired on Tuesday. "I'll have the best boobs in the nursing home. I'll be the envy of all the ladies around the bridge table."

Of course not.

But making comments about how now at least she'll have good boobs, is disgusting. It's a very difficult and emotional thing to go through, and I think a bit of understanding and sensitivity is required! The last thing someone going through a mastectomy needs is guys commenting about how they can no longer 'spank the monkey' to her boobs, or commenting that at least now she'll have bigger ones!

This forum is turning more and more into an insensitive, rude, boys club. And you wonder why there aren't many women on the forum?

The posters who made the rude and insensitive comments do not understand that it is OK for the afflicted person (if they are in that frame of mind) to make a joke at their own expense, but if you make a joke about them, it is just low class.

I'm afraid you're wrong there. It's always been this way and it'll continue being so for as long as there are men in IT. That's just the way the world works. Especially in techno-geek circles.

I am sure it won't change. And the men who are douchebags, can be just as sure that we will keep on calling them out on it.

No, there's been a change. There's more of an attitude lately. I'm not saying I want the forum to be all interior decorating and fashion (please, no!) but there's just this undercurrent coming through recently... an attitude of treating women as objects. It's shaken my faith that there are 'nice guys' out there - I've had a few guys tell me that what they're like in their posts isn't what they're really like in person. It's as if this community of frat boys brings out the bragging and the bad attitudes.

Anyway, didn't mean to derail the thread into a gender/behaviour/forum role type discussion ;)

Speaking of interior decorating, I painted walls and ceilings this weekend, never ever again!

Re choking the chicken, its a guy thing, we all do it, even the "nice guys" - yes they do!!

And whats wrong with treating woman as sex objects? My wife is the perfect sex object - everytime I want sex, she objects.......hence the need to choke the chicken!
