Why do myBB members are always assuming that I'm a troll? It seems that to many, a "troll" is the last line of defence when people cannot grasp reality.

I'm coming home soon :D, and R$10000 is the max amount of money I can take out of Brazil. Economies of scale are different when compared with SA, especially when you focus on Petroleum Industry. Everything here is expensive, even the iPhone 4S 16BG is priced at US$1400.00 officially from Apple, and there are lots of people willing to pay for it.

should definitely be getting one, going straight to paying off the engagement ring I just bought for my girl :)

I've just passed that stage, now having to pay the wedding ring off, so that's where mine is going, so I know how it feels lol.

Well, my employer decided (on our behalf, of course) that they will retain 25% of our bonus this year and give it to us in the form of share options. This includes top and mid-management, and I guess it is in the interest of sustainability into the future, seeing as management bonusses are a crapload each year.

Anyways, with the remainder of my bonus I paid the deposit on my new car, invested some of it, and treating the wife to a nice weekend away.

No Bonus.

If I did get one it would most likely be used to pay more off on the bond.

My bonus is paid in July. Nothing over christmas. But it knocked off my credit cards and overdraft. Temporarily :-P

I don't get a bonus. However I can allocate some of my salary towards a 13th cheque but that is not a bonus in my books. It's my money that I'm already entitled to.

This is what I get as well.

Sigh.

Do people still get bonusses?

So working your ass off, putting in unpaid overtime and weekend work should be enough to get a bonus?

Not here....

My bonus went to fixing the cars aircon, a kindle and a little cash for us as the wife is on maternity leave so nothing at the moment from her side.

Thanks man, the kindle is awesome :) yeah our little one is awesome he has his moments but worth it, just going to be tough the next 3 months.

^ This. That said, we got paid 10 days early this month, but that is more because of "managers want to go on leave early" than an actual "reward".

I guess when talking about bonusses you really have to take into account your yearly earnings with your 13th cheque included. A person may not receive a 13th cheque but still make more per year than a person who does the same job at another company and receives a 13th. Then you really can't complain.

The flipside is that people always live according to their monthly budget. If I barely get through the month on R10k, and then I magically get a raise and now receive R16k per month, after a few months I would have adjusted and again barely get through the month with my new salary. And if you look at things in that perspective, everyone will appreciate a 13th cheque.

I've only been working for 4 months and am very lucky to have received a pro rata 13th. Though not much, it helps with paying for xmas pressies and holiday. Next year it will be a full month's salary. We also got our January pay on the 15th of this month already

Sent from a Galaxy far, far away....

There is probably a conspiracy on the go between companies because more companies DON'T give bonuses than those that do! They do OK and profits are not bad but then at the end of the year they show a loss and then financial meetings everything is in the green again in the New Year... BUT the management get bonuses - naturally! Government employees get bonuses even though the land is going to hell - but that's because they don't have to EARN the money - we just give it to SARS or via our monthly accounts and they divide it amongst themselves hahahaha - and we let them...
