Christmas Menu 2023

Just chucked a pickled tongue and corned beef into the pressure cooker, should be about done in two hours.

I'll take them through to my folks to have as starters with rye bread, pickles, cheeses, pickled herring, biscuits, mustard, etc etc, and plenty of ice cold vodka!

Two birds I'm about to rub up, lube down, and give a good stuffing! One lemon and herb, and the other spicy bird's eye and Moroccan rub.

Folks will roast some lamb/gammon, uncle and aunt will bring the booze and desserts...

Eisbeins chopped in chunks, roasted a bit and I made a Sweet and sour sauce from some of the meat liquid in the pot with brown sugar, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire, tomato sauce and lots of pepper and chuck it over. Its about 4.5kg so hope its enough.
Now I am done and will just eat what all the rest have made tomorrow.

Doing something similar for Christmas ’24?
For christmas eve for our local immediate family I put on a pulled pork roast with crackling, roast new potatoes, green beans, butternut, and cauliflower/brocoli cheese bake.

Christmas day with our saffa friend circle, everyone chipped in and we had a spread with...
Gammon
Roast chicken
Roast beef
2 legs of lamb
Roast potatoes
Yorkshire puddings
Green beans, carrots
Sprouts with bacon
Roast butternut and beetroot salad
The rest of the cauli/cheese bake
Peppermint crisp pie
Brownies
Milk tart
Koeksisters
Various other types of dessert, too many to remember actually.
Cheese boards with figs and crackers

And a bunch of other nibbles. It was an epic feast spread over 9 hours.

So normally when we have a family gathering for Xmas everyone brings something. It seems that everyone goes out their way to make something special from their one dish and we feast like Kings.
This year was a bit smaller gathering and the person who's house it was at, made everything. And everything was bland and uninteresting.
That typical Afrikaans xmas lunch. Cold beef tongue, cold leg of lamb and cold gammon, with salads. All a bit tasteless.

Dinner Feast 24th:

Brunch Feast 25th:
Brunch:
Flapjacks with
Butter, syrup, mango, blueberries, raspberries and cream

Family dinner at my niece 25th - food wasn't nice:
Roast potatoes
Fried rice - overcooked and underflavoured
Roast pork - mine was too fatty
Roast chicken
Kofta - too firm, no flavouring
Devilled eggs - always tasty
Salad - strange mix of leaves, broccoli stems, fresh peas, topped with whole baby tomatoes, cheese and avocado??
Lubia - beans were undercooked
Tzatziki - made with bought chopped garlic
Various deserts including the most DELECTABLE trifle which my niece made.

Side splitting Secret Santa afterwards.

Apart from the dinner we had an awesome day with family and friends, good vibes.
