Google dropping data saver mode on Chrome for Android

Google's upcoming Chrome 100 release will see Android devices lose its "Lite Mode" — previously known as Data Saver — according to a 9to5Google report.

The company attributed the change to decreased data costs worldwide and said that it had improved its Chrome software over the years to minimise data usage.

As a lifetime data counter I can attest to they claims of less usage of this mode.

I mostly fail to understand Google's rationale for removing useful features.

I don't use data saver myself, but the stated argument for removing it, is weak.
