Johannesburg -Athletics South Africa (ASA) spokesperson Chris Britz confirmed on Thursday afternoon that ASA president Leonard Chuene still held the top position on the federation's board after a meeting of the ASA council in Johannesburg.

Brits said that ASA would release a statement later in the day, but confirmed that Chuene was still president of the federation.

The council met to discuss controversy surrounding ASA's handling of the fiasco that has erupted in the Caster Semenya gender controversy.

Much of the meeting was expected to involve Chuene's admission that he had lied about gender tests conducted on world 800-metres champion Semenya in Pretoria last month.

Chuene also admitted last weekend that he had chosen to ignore advice from ASA team doctor Harold Adams to withdraw Semenya from the World Athletics Championships in Berlin based on the results of those tests.

Chuene would not comment after the ASA council meeting adjourned.

What a joke......

Why does Africans wants leaders like this?

It's this phenomena that kept Bob Magarbage in power for so long.

Regardless of what Zuma is up to now, HTF did he qualify to be considered for the role of president with his record - only this Africa phenomena.

Let me get this straight. Chuene destroys a talented young girl's life and gets a pat on the back?

Exactly how badly can you f*** up to get fired?

I think if i did anything fractionly similar in my job, I would be on my ear. How can they let this man make us the laughing stock of the world?

It's the old Chief syndrome, no matter what he does they will still pick the ****.
You really have to get your head around the fact that we dont live in a western country, this is africa, either get with the program or **** off!

I just hope.. Really hope. That the international world will not let this slide, like they let Bob slide.
*rant*
I really wish i could ***off from this place to somewhere where my Tax money would be worth something to me. :( I will do everything in my power to ensure my children leave this dark, corrupt, Africa.
So their children can grow up where they belong. In a first world.

At least if a administrator F**s up they have the decency to resign.

Here they don`t even feign it, LOL! They just blast their way through the little bit of nuisance to continue their worthless lives in the luxury and protection granted to them by millions of stupid people.
Did you guys 'n galls see the arrogant way the ASA administrators cheered at the press?
It is obvious they are all of the same caliber as this man.. And the rest of the ANC pile!
*rant off*

Bang goes any credability, and I believe the sponsors of athletics are looking at pulling out as a result. At least now everyody has another great role model, if you lie then you are pulling a Chuene....

Being playing Fallout 3 and seriously Chuene looks like one of those Super Mutants in the game. And about as intelligent as well, quoting, "I lied, but the ASA says that is not a lie, so you media types are wrong for calling me a liar"

V.A.T.S 'em , i will apply the Super Sledge.

Surprise, surprise:

ANCYL welcomes ASA decision to keep Chuene

The African National Congress Youth League on Thursday welcomed Athletics SA's (ASA) decision to retain Leonard Chuene as its President.

Spokesman Floyd Shivambu said in a statement that Chuene has done a lot for the development of sports, particularly ASA.

He said Chuene's "long dedicated service should not be crumbled because of his genuine attempt to protect" 800m world champion Caster Semenya.

"The ANCYL has constantly interacted with ASA and will continue to have interest in the development of sports and athletics, particularly in [the] townships and rural communities," Shivambu said.

"It is our strong conviction that sports can play an important role in nation building and holistic development of many young people in our country."

Idiots sticking together.....

It was simple really; They said, there are calls to have you removed from your position, and we want to hear your side of the story. Chuene calmly pulled out a balance sheet showing the amount of money he earns per month - R35 000, which is not a salary. Then he pulled out the pictures of himself having tons and tons of fun at the events with various "friends and family" at the taxpayers expense. Then he pulled out pictures of ALL the people at the meeting doing similar things with taxpayers money. He then said: I only cost 35 000 a month, you bastids all get fixed salaries much higher than that, now piss of and leave me alone.
