Church Teacher Arrested for Speeding

A 38-year-old Laudium church teacher was arrested for driving at 147km/h in an 80km/h zone on the R55 near Oliewenhoutbosch on Friday, Gauteng traffic police said.

Spokeswoman Busaphi Nxumalo said two female officers in a patrol car switched on their siren and blue lights and signalled the man to pull over.

He indicated he intended to stop, but then "suddenly sped off and kept on driving".

After catching and stopping him, the two female officers had showed him his speed on the digital camera, she said.

"The man claimed that he was on his way to Laudium to teach children."

The man had resisted arrest, and the officers had used "the necessary force" to handcuff him.

He was taken to the Oliewenhoutbosch police station and charged with reckless and negligent driving and exceeding the speed limit.

"At the police station he made havoc [sic] by calling a group of friends to protest against the arrest," she added.

"Motorists must keep in mind the driver of a vehicle who is travelling faster than 40km/h [over the speed limit]... irrespective of the speed limit set on that specific road, will face the possibility of [having their] driving license suspended for six months, in the case of a first offender.

"When a person is arrested by members of this unit, the offence has been captured on a system called Digital Eyewitness Camera," Nxumalo warned.

Oh, so the guy whose brother was moaning on 702 this morning saying his brother was harassed and only doing a 100 lol...

Taxi's cause people to drive like they do in most cases. I have seen taxi's flying down the yellow lane followed by a bunch of random cars and the taxi doesn't get stopped, the other cars were stopped. Reason, more likely to get paid. All good and well giving tickets to taxi's but it's similar to doing work for people you know won't pay. Pointless.

I am seeing more and more cops sitting waiting for the queue jumpers, i live in fountainbleau and rabie they love sitting under the bridge catching people who use the turn only lane to force their way into the queue, the most annoying is a truck doing it. Then we all sit doing 20 up the hill. It's those moments i wish i had a hand gun to shoot out the trucks wheels :D. Obviously it is just a thought but it is so annoying, then the cops pulled over a truck and the lane is blocked, so you have a choice sometimes, go up the hill at 20-40 depending on vehicles that queue jumped or wait 5 minutes longer for the cops to block the road and ticket a big vehicle. The bridge is 50m further up with space to pull them over but no they must stop and ticket naughty people and block the lane.

Between the taxi's, metro cops and people saying well taxi's can do it, it makes sense the roads are so dangerous.

Some roads have ridiculous speed limits, try get to jhb from potch via carlton, 20km's of 60 zone with nothing but bush around. Then if they catch someone doing 120 they are like o wow you are so bad but it should be 100. I understand 60 when in built up area's but 60 in the middle of nowhere, WTF?

It's a dangerous road, drive fast past there always, but I think 100kmph is fine, 147 is excessive. The squatters don't care about cars they just cross the roads wherever they feel like or worst throw bricks at cars.
 
I'm glad one of these church teachers finally got caught. Imagine how many of them get away by saying a prayer and thus magically avoid the speedtraps with God's help.
