Hi Guys

I'm looking for some Cisco kit for a home lab.
Any idea where I can get reasonably priced switches? Routers are not a problem...L3 / Multilayer switches are tough to find and run into thousands!
Anyone have some working kit that they want to sell perhaps?
Tx

I got myself a few switches off ebay - going for good prices. Though shipping to SA probably wouldn't make it worthwhile.

Have a look at GNS3. You can do basic switch emulation and do pretty much everything you need to for the CCNA.

I have used GNS and packet tracer. Both good at what they set out to do but I need switching kit with support for functiona that neither of there products support - hence the need for real equipment. Ebay seems like only real option but the shipping is a killer. At that price you could almost buy n recon switch locally. Runs into thousands

Hi,

That entirely depends on what you would like to accomplish. Is this a CCNA/NP or IE lab?

For CCNA/NP and for the most part, the 3550/3560 switches at Distribution layer and 2950s at Access/Edge layer should cover you with most of the protocols and technologies. A SIMPLE switch lab can be bought at 2 - 2.5k ( 1x 3550, 2x 2950 ).

Obviously with more money, you can purchase better and newer equipment that run on the new IOS (aforementioned only run till 12.5 I think).

From my quick search, the prices are pretty much the same (excl shipping ofc) for the devices. I would just test the equipment you buy here before you buy/pay for it.
