Cisco Rack Rentals - Local?

Hi all,

Anyone know of a local company that offer lab time/rack rentals with Cisco gear?
I'm prepping for my CCIE and I don't feel like going and buying a whole bunch of gear on eBay or wherever and not have anything to do with it later, and virtual environments can only go SO far.

I searched the forum, but can't really find what I'm looking for.

I don't know if you Torque-IT? Did my CCNA there and they have a lot of Cisco equipment. I am sure you can organize to use their equipment.

Good luck for the exam, I hear its one difficult exam...

Are you doing your CCIE without having worked at an ISP or company with a fairly big network? Thats pretty brave, but definitely doable. Best of luck, and let us know how it goes like TheFella said :)

I have a good deal of networking/Cisco experience, although not in ISP environments (mostly banks, mining, etc.) and figured what the hell. Hehe! I hear it is very difficult, and quite expensive (US$ 2750- IIRC), but I figured they have the CCIE mobile lab here again next year June and thought I would push to get it done.

FYI I am looking to break into the ISP market at some stage, and this might just give me that edge ;-)
 
That's just it. They now provide the lab in SA once a year. I agree, beats having to go to Dubai, which is the best alternative. If I had to travel I probably wouldn't have done this, but the local thing makes it (slightly) more viable.

I just think that price needs changing $2500 :O

Think I will just stick with a CCNP, don't have any need for CCIE

Dude try TFI, they always sending me rental short term offers on Cisco equipment.

I take it you are doing the R&S CCIE, instead of the ISP CCIE...you might want to reconsider if you are looking at breaking into the ISP market. Bad news is I dont think there is a mobile lab


Im starting to study in Jan for my CCIE Sec, hoping to write mobile labs in sept
 
Yes, the CCIE R+S, and I might look at the CCIE SP/SP Ops, as brindging at CCIE level is easier than re-doing the entire track, due to the pre-requesites at Associate and Professional levels.

In hindsight, doing the CCNA/CCNP SP/SP Ops tracks would have been better, yes, but at the time, and given my experience and job roles, the routing and switching made more sense.

Good luck with your preparations as well. Just check, because I believe there is only one mobile lab per year, and next year it is 28 May to 01 June for both R+S and Security.

Also, I've played with IOS Over Unix, but I must say I like GNS3 better, because of the VirtualBox integration. but like I said, a virtual environment really can only take you SO far. nothing like getting your hands dirty with the real stuff ;-)
