I enjoyed the original colonization and am enjoying this one as well. The time factor is part of the game so you will never get round that, the whole idea is to declare Independence.
However the royals or "Torrie's" as they were called in the old game, are a lot harder. I only managed to defeat them on my 7th or 8th try. The trick for anyone needing to know, is to destroy the warships. If he has no ships, irrespective of his army side, he can't get them to you and you win by default once all his units are destroyed and he can't bring more in. I don't think a person can effectively compete with army size.

I liked the Colonization remake. Still prefer the original though
I like the focused scale of the game, because if I want epic - the only thing that can satisfy me is Europa Universalis III (though Victoria was hundreds better than that)!
The original was epic!
