Civilization 7

I’ve always loved Civilization, but I’m holding off on Civ 7 until I see how it shapes up after a few months. The initial previews and early looks didn’t quite win me over, and the UI, along with other launch aspects, feels underwhelming.

I was excited when it was first announced, but after watching reviews and gameplay, my concerns were pretty much confirmed. Hopefully, patches and updates improve things, but for now, I’m waiting to see how it evolves.

I also recently found myself getting tired of Civ 6, but will have to stick it out there a bit longer.

Civ 6 is fun but you need to back off a bit and come back to it.
For 4x I go to the Galactic Civ series as a break from Civ

I think last one I played was 4. But it's a bit time consuming. Nice game though. Not sure how they keep it interesting by releasing so many. But then again I feel the same about Assassins Creed. Just the same old thing with a different skin.

4 was good, they add more concepts to the game, inprove AI. More units and different ways to achieve goals

Still loving Civ 6. It's my first and only Civ game and while the base game allowed me to learn the ropes well, the game only really came alive once I got the DLC.

I'm happy to wait a couple years once the issues are fixed and DLC added

That was when I stopped playing. I loved 1-3 where there were no limits on cities, building or research and you could have spearmen going up against tanks every now and then.

From 4 on they changed it to a turn based RTS, for example you have a lot more strict build order that you have to stick more narrowly to. The higher you crank up the difficulty the narrower the order becomes.

It was always turn based :)

I've benched Civ7 for now, especially considering how poorly its been received.

Old World is surprisingly fun and been jamming that instead.

I've played and loved all the Civ games but I just can't get myself to play over R1000 for a game. Not when there's so many other games to play.

Humankind is currently free on the Epic Store. I enjoyed that if any of you haven't played it.

At this point it would be just a waste of money for me. Bought Civ6 on launch day and only have about 50 hours played compared to almost 5000 in Civ5

Humankind didn't really click for me. I'm currently playing Galciv 4 and waiting for a sale on AoW4

Tried Humankind again (tried it some months ago single player and it felt meh), this time multiplayer, but still felt meh.

Old World has that "just one more turn" magic like Civ. Humankind just don't even remotely - at least for me.
If you don't like Old World's Crusader Kings style events then you can disable that for an even closer to Civ experience.

2K games.

Seems to be rather apt as that's what their games cost these days.
Then when you look at the reviews it's quickly apparent that the game (once again) is only half assed, so they can sell that to you a month or 3 down the line, bit by bit, at astronomical pricing.

Not even including Britain as a core Civ seems preposterous.

As a huge Civ enjoyer with disposable income I'll sit this one out for quite a while.

Sigh, hoped that Civ 7 might be able to recapture the experience of, in my view, the best of the series -Civilization IV. Played Civ 5 and 6 a bit but they never grabbed me like Civ 4. And that price point is just insane, might have to try your recommendation of Old World which has stellar reviews on Steam.

Something that annoys me is when features from a previous Civilization are not available in the latest iteration. Then, the response is 'Don't worry, they will add it back in a DLC.' I don't care if it was part of a DLC in the previous game; it should now be part of the base game in the new version.

Epic has Old World on sale for R124.75
