So i've been out of the entire ADSL thing for about 2 years now, since moving house and starting the battle with Telkom to get a new line installed. Apparently my line is now being installed today, a full 21 months and 15 days later, I'm not holding my breath at all though I'll just go home tonight and see if my modem has finally stopped flashing and has a nice steady sync light...at which point I will most likely break down and cry if it is the case...
I've been going through the latest posts on this part of the forum and it seems there are a lot of changes comming in on the 1st of February that may dramatically impact on a lot of people and they way I was used to using my ADSL.
I currently have a normal telephone line with the Closer 1 package. Should my ADSL be working tonight I will be required to change this, from what I understand from reading the ISP discussions there are a couple of options to follow, what I am considering is thus:
1) Cancel the closer plan, I've made basically 10 phone calls since the land line was installed
2) Get DO1 plan, I can't foresee needing much more than this, I only applied for a 384 line and it all basically home use
3) Get 1Gb unshaped prepaid cards from Axxess or WebAfrica
If I understand correctly, as of the 1st of February, this will then entitle me to:
- 2GB International bandwidth, 1 combined shaped usage from Telkom and 1 combined unshaped usage from the prepaid
- 10GB Local bandwidth to be used to once the 1GB combined usage from Telkom is consumed
All in all this should cost me about R410.00 a month(DO1 R200, Line rental R110, Prepaid R100)
Am I understanding this correctly or did I mis something?
It it is the case I'll be rather happy as it actually saves me some money compared to Closer 1 + 1GB from Vodacom...
Should I possibly consider some other combination of products/packages?
