Not blaming r00igev@@r, just trying to make sense of all this useless information that is being fed to us... just seems to me that the only way to get some sort of information out of these corporates is by beating them half to death with the media stick.
I'm a UNISA student, I use my internet for my studies, what I have is all I can afford and it worked perfectly for my needs... I was willing for fork out R500 a month to keep what I had going, but if iBurst insists on striking out all its old customers for this new BS then I walk... sure 3G may be more expensive but ego refuses to let me fund a corporate which is no more credible than our own government.

I'm really beginning to think its worth moving house just so I may be blessed with copper... If I had the choice I would be using ADSL.

If iBurst was willing to compromise, thats fine, but it just seems all they are interested in is boasting about these new products and value added services, but then the time comes to answer to the customers, they shut their doors. Ahh, its just like election day.

To be honest, I was under the impression that iBurst was making a special arrangement for it's old customers in order to maintain some form of credibility... I mean general logic tells you it would be incredibly STUPID risk loosing customers over something like this, it is CLEAR that this change has upset just about EVERYONE. So why do it? I just can't figure it out.

The feedback is that when the free 64kb/s throttle service expires then the 64kb/s and 128kb/s VAS will be available from Wireless 1 and up. The web site will be updated in due course. Originally, the VAS would only have been available on the higher packages (which is what the web site states) but the decision was made to accommodate subscribers on lower packages. If you guys don't like it, I can always forward a request to have it reversed?

BTW: Today, I was reminded about the downside of ADSL. I haven't had an ADSL line for about a year, and sometime last year I removed the surge protector from my line to install on my mom's line, for her fax machine. On the weekend, I installed a fax machine on my line without the surge protector. After this evening's storm the fax machine + desktop computer has been reduced to a pile of useless junk after a lightning strike. When I had an ADSL line I would make regular trips to Builder's Warehouse to buy Ellie's wonder plugs and surge protectors (or risk equipment damage). Kicking myself that I overlooked installing one this weekend.

Will there be a standard booster price of R49 as well or will those prices stay the same? I don't like the VAS price so go ahead and have it reversed to a cheaper price.

Even without being connected to a phone/ADSL line, lightning can take out your PC and other devices just as easily. You're trying to punt this as an advantage of iBurst's, but your argument is highly flawed. I know of a few people who have had their iBurst modems blown by lightning - yip 2K down the drain just like that, while an ADSL modem can be replaced for R400 or less. Also, the need for an external antenna kinda blows your argument to shreds. You are probably more likely to get hit by lightning with an external antenna, than with just a regular ADSL line.

The iBurst tower went off earlier tonight, about 3 hours before the lightning started to pick up in Bloem... A blown surge protector is way more effecient than 100% working modems with no working tower.

Ok, this is great... if I can apply for the 64kb/s or 128kb/s VAS on any wireless package, i.e wireless 2 or wireless 1, that suits me perfectly and I am happy with that.

I would also like to know the answer to this.

I'm also a long standing customer (since 2006) and after this trick from iBurst, I will actively look for an alternative...if it comes, I will give iBurst the boot.

Hypothetically speaking, what if I change my account to a wireless 1 account add the 128kbs VAS, link another modem to the account, combine those modems with a dual WAN router....I could theoretically do 80gB/month (at a not too shabby 256kbs)...will that be classified as abusing the network?

Thats good to hear, no need to revers it :rolleyes: When will this become available and will we be able to apply for a VAS via the website or will we have to phone? Also, will we be able to migrate between packages via the website again?
 
So the 128k will have a fair usage limit of 40gb? And will we be able to apply for a VAS via the website :D?

Fair Usage will probably be 20GB per month. I still think iBurst should give everyone 20GB per month extra at full speed and hardcap after that. That would be fair. Of course, they won't do that.
That 20GB would not carry over of course, it would be 20GB pm on top of your cap. The VAS should be priced as is. For 128k VAS a 40GB cap should be applied. But 64k and 128k are painfully slow and surely only
those on a very tight budget and with no other choice but iBurst will stick to it. With modern websites, even browsing at 64k is painfully slow - it was possible in the 90s but now it's slow with all those ad banners, java, gifs, flash, php etc.

R199 = almost 4GB of full speed in terms of boosters. That's a lot for mere browsing - I can only imagine those who really want to download the full 20GB in binary files will want that 64k/128k.

The fair usage is to compensate for those times when iBurst's throttling system goes on the blink.

^ the 128k throttle will be perfect for gaming and using teamspeak at the same time, also with the 64k throttle I can only play some of my games online. The little bit of extra juice should be enough for me to be able to play all of my games online when capped/throttled.
 
Just watched the old movie hackers on Actionx. 28.8Kb/s modem was huge in 1995. 15 Years later we are still paying for 64Kb/s.

Considering that the US had free local phone calls and everyone but AOL charged flat rate for internet, it was cheaper too :).
 
The fair usage is to prevent abuse by multiple modems.

The target for the throttle VAS service is for people using email, instant messaging, twitter, skype, internet banking, and bill payments. This not withstanding, I doubt browsing the most content rich of web sites will equal 20GB in a month. Those values are reached with exchanging or downloading large binary files.
 
Well, it doesn't matter, because if you renew your contract before March, on the 2GB Package, you will get the 2GB's + 64K throttle AND a Wifi Router for R239 per month (24 Months).

So do what we did, Renew your contract, it SAVES you R199 AND you get a Wifi Router!!
