I am taking a look at ClearOS to use as a file share server and possibly firewall/proxy/vpn etc.
I have set up Endian Firewall and Microsoft SBS at other sites, I want to take a look at ClearOS as an alternative solution.

Primary use will be file server.
I have done some research and found 2 useful sites with setup info:
http://www.ulverston.myzen.co.uk/mini-itx/pages/repos.htm
http://www.howtoforge.com/running-a-small-business-server-with-clearos-6.3.0-community-edition

I have seen posts on MyBB about ClearOS.

Has anyone got positive/negative feedback about using it for Filesharing?

I have seen comments about having separate Gateway and File server, as this is supposedly a bad thing for security reasons, what are your thoughts about using ClearOS to do both?

Ive got over 50 fileservers running out there with ClearOS. No hassles. Very very easy to install.

If you have bottomless IT funds, separate them. If you dont, then this is fine. Ive been using them since ClarkConnect days and I have not had one single security breach.

Great - thanks for the feedback.

Do you set up a Samba domain or do you use locally defined users?

Also with locally defined users, can create a secure file share?
