Good day guys.

ClearOS (https://www.clearos.com/) is not allowing any new installations to register at ClearOS.

The error you get is described in this thread :

The reason and fallout of this being that the Dynamic DNS, Internal Email System and Payment API has been turned off, as detailed in this thread :

Ben turned off the Dynamic DNS, Internal Email System, and Payment API as he feels he has not gotten enough money from prior agreements that were paid off and completed years ago. So either he and Nick could take the ClearCenter Customers or just kill the ClearOS Server / ClearCenter business as we were not able/willing to pay the ransom.

Ben is an amazing human and friend, but it is sad to see this intentional outage, as it hurts everyone and is not right. I believe ClearOS Server has a solid future as is and has been, and many are still willing to support it, just not in the same way he and others did prior.

I am sure he feels his intentions are good but we are at an impasse here and the customers are the ones feeling it. For which I am very sorry and sad.

So.

Basically ClearOS is a Linux system that requires minimal effort on your side to provide email, Samba/file sharing, Internet access etc services all on one box.

Is there an alternative Linux distro that can do the same, get you up and running with a few clicks and not having to spend hours installing and configure packages?

TIA

Sad news about ClearOS. I havent used it in a while as my work has been focused more on hosting servers but when I used to setup small to medium business`s on it, it worked like a charm.

I dont know of any decent replacement for it. It was really good at what it did. Its going to be sad if this project dies.

But that takes minimal effort to do on a STANDARD Ubuntu server install
Oh wait... Gen Z,
Most of us does not have time to fiddle and diddle around, we just want something that will install and work out of the box.

Plus it cuts down on errors and mistakes. And it ensures that the installations are all the same, and nothing is different.
