Co.za downtime explained

You're all asking for a new system "like GoDaddy's", but that doesn't really make sense.

Is GoDaddy not just a middleman, just like any normal hosting provider? You're obviously cutting out the middle man by registering .co.za domains yourselves.

I agree, coza needs to update their system, and an API would make life a lot easier, but a web interface? I don't think that's their job.

No it does. We are asking for web management of the domains.

What middleman? The middlemen dont even have a system to connect to.

Yes a web interface. Something like enom has to make it easier to manage hundreds to thousands of domains. Uniforum have being lying to the public for years about brining out an API. Even if they brought out an API Uniforums T&Cs will make it very hard for there to be "middlemen".

It's quite interesting to see some people still defend Uniforum even until today, I've realised there's no point arguing with them. Off topic, but have you noticed how soft their staff sound over the phone? I can barely make out what they are saying half the time.

If you mean me, I'm definitely not defending them. I'm just saying I don't think it would make sense for Uniform to have a web interface, because it would be up to the resellers (like enom, a domain reseller) to give the user an interface. It would be like Verisign having a web interface to registering domains.

of course, I could have it totally wrong and not understand the role Uniform plays in this.

And I'm still agreeing with you though that Uniform is about 10 years behind the times. And EXTREMELY irritating that they've been down for so long.

I hope they get rid of the irritating name server check as well, sometimes it can take days for them to update if they have trouble finding a nameserver or they think something is wrong with it.

.
No, I am not cutting out the middleman, I am hosting in the US and they cannot register .co.za domains.

But why pay the middleman if it can take a few seconds to do so. I registered a .net domain for a customer this afternoon and within 2 minutes after registration it was LIVE -even via SA domain servers. Normally a co.za domain takes several hours to go live.

For a moment I was about to ask you why you arent able to register co.za domains on us servers and the read again. Yes the reason why other resellers such as enom cannot register co.za domains is due to the fact that they dont have an API nor follow the Extensible Provisioning Protocol

As for getting a petition going, I've set one up although Im not too sure how much attention and noise we would need to make in order to make a difference.
Here are the details for the petition. Can some one with mod rights create a sticky with a link to the petition

Good news, we've just received our first COZA: PENDING: Domain we-are-back-online.co.za has been queued

Just received a whole bunch of registration and updates notices. Looks like they're 6 hours late, but better late then never.

Yep, just checked...Uniforum (http://co.za) is STILL down. This kind of downtime is plumbing new depths for despicable incompetence :-(

Put a redirect page on a simple server from co.za to www.coza.net.za you idiots! So that we don't have to spend 30 minutes reading forums to find out that it actually exists. Your incompetence knows no bounds. Management should be fired! It is almost one week and the main company domain root server is still down. Get out of your meetings about who is to blame and what will happen in the future and give your staff some direction! This should have taken no more than 1 hour! You are an embarrassment to the country!!! If I managed my business like you do, I would have no clients left. Lucky about that monopoly you have. And don't blame the techies for the main public server downtime - that's a management issue!

Can we take them to court due to loss of business? Right now we (as ISP's / hosting companies) look bad sine we can't register / renew / transfer domains for clients.

Ours went through early this morning, as did server-admins.net's requests? I agree thought that before today a lot of customers were getting anxious thank goodness for MyADSL news pages as evidence :)

Yeah mate, they came through in a steady flow. Glad we're back and business and our resellers can continue transferring their domains.
A week of hell is an understatement.
