People who have committed and was found guilty of Assault even Assault with intent and only got suspended sentences. Manana was found guilty of assault with intent and got what? Please, you trying to play devil's advocate her but you are failing miserably. No one is saying what they did was right and that they should not be punished. But 11/14 years in jail. Only a complete moron would think that is ok. Fark, even 3 years in jail is an over kill. But 11/14 years? Nea, you can't be this stupid...

Since you're the ultimate authority on morals, the law and appropriate judgements and punishments you should really consider studying law, working for 20 years as a lawyer and becoming a judge (as she did) so you can share your insight and wisdom with the whole country instead of just spouting on myBB forums. I think her judgement was a appropriate, yes, as do the majority of people in SA as do all political parties. But you obviously know better than everyone, than all the complete morons that surround you.
I really hope this case does reach the SCA so it can be settled once and for all. I have no doubt the sentence will be upheld.

So forcing someone into a coffin against their will is "hurting their feelings" ? Do you think they committed any crime at all? Do you know the definition of kidnapping?

In the case of S v Mellors an adult woman was kidnapped at the library. The woman was not taken anywhere, but was forced to make certain telephone calls. This was still found to be kidnapping in that the woman was unable to leave the library (in other words, her right to freedom of movement was infringed).

Forcing someone into a coffin is removing his right to freedom of movement wouldn't you say?

We put a rubber snake in the door to a room the maid was cleaning, and she could not leave the room while we were laughing at her.

Yeah I know, not cool, but we were 5 and 6 years old.

14 years does seem excessive, 3-5 years would seem more in line with the case.

Those guys deserve community service, nothing more, honestly. The sentence is purely racial, and that is a fact.

I suspect that is what will happen on appeal, probably some community service thrown in too. Just a shame this has to be such a waste of money and legal resources to get the mess cleaned up that was caused by a total incompetent fool.

Again, you're projecting now. I'm not claiming anything. You are doing your utmost to try and defend this judgement with is completely over the top. And what happens if the SCA gives them a suspended sentence? You going to cry about how wrong our justice system is? Or let's say 5 years each? Because obviously you think this is a justified sentence

I've said repeatedly I think it's an appropriate sentence, Sherlock, great deduction there. I've also pointed out that the majority of SA citizens agree as do all the political parties here.

You are the one crying about how wrong our justice system is, so don't project that on to me.

You say you are not claiming anything while claiming explicitly that I lack basic understanding of punishment coupled with the law. Claiming that the only 'crime' they committed was hurting someone's feelings. You claimed the sentence was too extreme and condescendingly assert that anyone who disagrees is an idiot and a moron. So don't come now with your "I'm not claiming anything" BS.
