Colour profile

Hmm, I'm still not getting consistent results. I used "sRGB IEC61966-2.1" and between FireFox and Safari I'm still seeing a huge difference. I'm trying to figure out how to omit the profile completely (or use whatever will display equally regardless of browser) - like "save for web & devices" in Photoshop. I mean, I could just use Photoshop, but I kinda like the flickr plugin.

It's already set to 2.2 (looks bad on any other setting). Anyway, that doesn't change what the browsers do. I'm already using the "sRGB IEC61966-2.1" profile when exporting, I'll mess around with the others tonight.

Being too cheap to pay for something I can do for free I use the flickr uploader app instead of the aperture one :o

The Aperture/Flickr uploader is free too.

Have you looked at what it looks like on a PC?

there is a free version but it is fairly limited as to what it can do.

EDIT - I just did a quick test and got more consistent results across safari, camino, and firefox using the "Generic RGB" profile

sRGB

Generic RGB

There are two different ones. The one I'm referencing does exactly what the standalone one does, the layout is just slightly different.
By using the standalone I can use custom automatic naming conventions as well as multiple accounts.

Both. What's frustrating me is that I'm working through my pics of Scotland. On the Acer screen, any given picture of the grassy hills or the mountains looks very green, deeply saturated. If I drag the same image to the MacBook's display, it looks like it didn't rain at all during the winter. So which is it?

I think I'll just go pick up a Huey from the Apple store today.

Use the one with the greener grass - your pics will seem much better, although it was a dull holiday/etc....:D

Are we talking about the same program? The one from http://flickr.com/tools/uploadr - version 3.0.5? I don't see anything like that - are you scripting something?
When you export versions (shift++e) you get the option for "Name Format" which isnt available for for the plugins. I've saved various custom naming conventions including one for flickr that I use on other accounts.

Inside the flickr app you can easily change between accounts.

OK, I just rolled a Windows in VMware and compared FF, Safari and IE - they show up the same. Under Linux it also shows up the same. On the Mac it doesn't. I can't really tell if I'm seeing the right or wrong version under Windows/Linux, since the monitors are very different from on the Mac, but I think the colours look more or less right. How does this compare in different browsers for you?

Aah OK, I'm with you. You're talking about the "version" export in Aperture. I thought you were doing all of that in the uploader :o

Anything you care to share?

It looks flatter in firefox. Still using the sRGB profile? It doesnt surprise me that it all looks the same in windows as afaik it completely ignores the profiles.

They're just pages I set up for portfolios, etc. Wishful thinking but you never know ;)

Even Safari in Windows?

Yes, that was uploaded yesterday some time. I'll play with this again in my lunch break.

That does seem to give better results. I still don't get consistency across browsers (on any OS), but the differences are much smaller. Bizarrely, on the Mac, it looks more rich and contrasty in Safari, and rather bland in FF. Under windows, Safari is the one that looks more washed out.
