Vet bills for a sick or injured pet can run into tens of thousands of rands, and the cheapest premium is rarely the best cover. Pick the level of cover you want and what matters for your pet, and this tool compares South Africa’s main insurers (Oneplan, dotsure, MediPet, OUTsurance, Kido and Woolworths) on cover type, annual limits, waiting periods and excess. Because premiums are quoted per pet, it compares the cover that actually decides value, then links you to each insurer for a real quote, with no broker in between.

Anyone interested can have a look here:

I'm planning to switch away from Medipet. They don't cover pre-existing which makes the R700 i pay a bit useless. Even then, they take a long time to respond or approve a claim. Should happen within 24 hours, it's been more than a week now.

@TheOracle can you add who they are underwriten by or who the a actual insurer is for the plans?

Would be interesting to see if they all actually the same company.

I also have a dog with pre-existing illness and is on cronic medicine. I don't think there are any that would cover that.

Mine is not on any chronic medication. Has a spine operation couple of years ago. And while in surgery also got treated for Pancreatitis. No issues since then , but if anything spinal or pancreas infection happens it is just "sorry, nope, Pre existing". They have lower plans that cover pre existing but jy is basically useless as the coverage for anything is very low. Just frustrating, but it is more the poor service and waiting times when claiming.

Good suggestion, I have added "Underwritten by".
