Confirming higher revs

I remember my ex wife's Fiesta used to go differently every time there was any major work done and would settle down after a while, strange yes but a mechanic that was used said the ECU will affect it a bit but only for a while. I didn't trust this but he seemed to be right..............?

ECU's do change and adapt. but only really with things like throttle response. it wont do much else notable

3,500 is more like what I'd expect. What was done in this "service". The only way this would change would be a change to the actual 5th gear, replacing it with one of different ratio. Could be don, but it would require pulling and opening the gearbox. If your gearbox service didn't cost at least R10k, then you didn't pay for this. I guess it's possible they did it for some efarious reason, however, I can't think of any reason to steal someone's gear out of a gearbox and replace it with a different one. Your cost in labour would far exceed the cost of a gear.

This. like they swopped out a gearbox/diff or something. sounds dodge if you really have different gear ratios.
