I have got a Pioneer BSC 222 Blu Ray DVD player with surround sound speakers... ( 2 x HDMI in, 1X HDMI out, 2x Optical in, 1x RCA Aoudio in & 1x Composite Video out).
A Sony KLV40R472 HD TV .............. ( 2x HDMI Connections, 1x Analog Audio Input for HDMI,1x R connection input, & 1x Adio out
I also have a DSTV ( non - PVR ) decoder.

How do i connect both the decoder and the dvd player to my TV and have the best sound work through the surround sound on both dvd and dstv ?

Well with my TV, I have all the HDMI cables go directly into the TV and then have the optical audio out of the TV feed straight into my amp.

I find that is the best option as the amp doesn't have to be on for you to watch a specific HDMI input.

Although if your TV doesn't have optical out, then the best option would be to feed the HDMI cables into the amp, however you must make sure that the amp supports surround on the HDMI cable inputs as some amps just pass the audio through, they don't decode and play the surround audio through the speakers from HDMI.
