Help needed, I need to figure out if there is a problem with my line or router. I've got an ADSL signal but no signal for PPP. I tried connecting the router in bridged mode and doing a dial-up but that does not work either. Same situation for both my SAIX and IS accounts.
Thanks.

hmm...

what router do you have?
Do you see it synching? There should be an upstream and downstream speed somewhere... then you look at authentication problems. I would suggest it is a TK problem - maybe DSLAM.

Thanks, I've got a Billion 7202g, ADSL Parameters settings on router gives me Upstream at 128kbps and Downstream at 384kbps. Anyone else in Richards Bay, KZN with similar problems?

Ok - so you are synching with the exchange... my experience here is that it is the DSLAM. I usually phone 08600375375 and they tell me to turn off my modem and unplug it from the phone line for a minute (while they potter with something their side) then turn it all back on... sometimes it fixes it, sometimes they have to go to the exchange themselves (tit's happened 3/4 times to me)

Just to let you know having the same problems here in Umhlanga area Durban north. Woke up this morning with the internet completely dead currently using "modem" mode it only gets to Connecting to PPPOE mini something or other can't remeber but it's like the first step of the connection then times out with "remote computer didn't respond" or something like that. I have talked to my ISP and they say my accounts are fine(all 4 of them) so it does seem like something on Telkom's side I'll have a more detailed look this afternoon if it's still off durning my lunch I'll call Telkom and see if I can get it sorted. It is a strange issue in all my years of Running ADSL this is the first time I have gotten this type of issue. Sync is fine at 4Mb/s down and 384k up. Sync light is on but as you said this is probably the DSLAM.

Regards
Cerberus
