Connection problem to 3G

I am about 25kms from the Voda and MTN towers, but good line of sight. My Huawei B683 takes time to find a WCDMA signal, but when it does its full signal. However it refuses to connect. Sometimes it will connect but loses the connection soon after. Edge connects fine but not 3G. I am using a poynting directional aerial to boost signal.
Any ideas of what I might try to get stable 3G?

Put it in your phone and see if it's a signal problem or not.

Yes I tried that. The phone also loses the H signal, so I agree the connection is weak, but the boost aerial gives full bars to the router.

Cell breathing on congested tower? Full signal on the router can be below -80dBm, which is barely acceptable. Can you read dBm value? It would tell us more.
