currently have the following setup

dual LNB running extraview on two 1131 decoders

im looking to replace the primary decoder as that it the one hooked up to the HD plasma.

question : will the original HD PVR be ok for this?

or do I need this new HD PVR 2P

yep will be fine, you just need a multi switch (2 x6 is fine 4 cables to hd pvr and 1 to the 1131) i have my set up this way only differnce is i have a 1110 in stead of the 1131

ah I see the 2P only needs 2 cables... Think I might go that route rather!

just need to get my hands on a multiswitch

thanks for the info

Get yourself a SatCR LNB, costs ~R800....no need for a multiswitch and requires one cable to your HD PVR and one cable to the 1131 from the LNB. It is a neater install and requires less cable.

I have a similar setup to that of HTC-guy: Twin LNB, 1110 (primary) + 1131 (secondary). I want to replace the primary with a PVR. (No high-def required.) Would the SatCR be sufficient and what's the average installation cost we're looking at?

Any advantages to having a multiswitch instead of SatCR?

multi swiches are available every where nowaday (like pick and pay, makro game etc)

no diference between SATCR and multi switch, the only differnce is that you will have less cables, so its a neater setup. of course a SATCR cost R800 while a multi switch is under R500 SAtcr works out cheaper if you dont already have a twin LNB
P>S u can only use one of the HD PVRs as a primary the SD PVR canot be used as a primary decoder

I got myself a 2x4 multiswitch today, but now I read on a different thread that I would not be able to record a channel on the vertical polaroid while watch one on horizontal, and vice versa. I'm not really worried about the multiswitch being a waste of money, just wondering if spending a little more on a quad-LNB isn't worth it?

I think you read it wrong... As long as you have a twin LNB, running into the 2x4, you will have full functionality.

The problem is, although I have a twin-LNB at home, one of the feeds serve the secondary decoder (I have Xtraview). I was hoping I could replace the primary decoder with a baby-PVR and get full recording functionality using a single LNB-feed plus multiswitch.

Nope, but then just use a feed from the multiswitch for the second decoder

That will not work. You must run both LNB feeds to the switch and then run all decoders from the switch... or get a quad, run 2 cables to the 2x4 (or straight to the decoder if you have the 2P) and 1 to the secondary decoder.
