I'd like to see the demographics of those sales figures, if you were to see who purchased the consoles, for whom they made the purchase if not for themselves and level of knowledge in terms of gaming i.e. hardware/software knowledge, gaming experience etc. I'm pretty sure we'd see a different picture, I think it can pretty much be summed up in the quote above :)

Not to say that the Wii ain't fun at a family gathering but for week in, week out gaming, I don't think it comes anywhere near the PS3 or Xbox!

Hehe.....

I don't own a console, but every time I play a wii I have a blast. Sure I can see that Xbox and PS3 are much more intense with far better story lines, however I guess I enjoy the possibilities of the wii, using my imagination and the interactiveness with the TV and my mates (please note I'm one of those who turns my head and arms a great deal while playing driving simulators).

I play consoles to have fun and be entertained, the wii provides that.
 
You think the next generation Wii will attract the 'more serious' gamer?

Personally, I wouldn't mind a Wii for fun and games - but I'm aware I'll get bored soon and R3,000.00 is quite a bit for it. If - however - they combined a real console with the motion, I'd want that.

Whether it be next generation Wii with real graphics and games - or next generation Xbox with real motion.
 
Forget about the consoles. A figure I would like to see is the amounts made on accessories. Wii has a very clever market plan with hundreds of different gadgets to add - remotes, nanchucks, steering wheels, the sport addons to make them real, the balance board, swords, light sabers, guitars, microphones, and recently everybody has to have the motion plus - money for jam. A cash cow that Project Natal will never enjoy because all the accessories are simply made of air :-D

I strated playing mario galaxy and I was like. omg. how can people play this crap.. it belongs in 1999 .. but I'm a gfx whore.

Will be interresting to see what Nintendo does with the next Wii seeing as they are making anough money to put into some serious research and development. Can't hurt to have a console for the mainstream and serious gamer. Hope they don't just stick 3 gamecubes together next time around.
 
Problem I have is with the Wee-Wee is that they can refine the motion controllers as much as they want but because of the stunted chipset they use they will never be able to refine the physics to the point that they mimic reality. Meaning that perfect Golf simulation etc. is not entirely possible.

Unfortunately this means instant DQ man, "serious gamers" body movements are restricted to less than 45 degrees :p

Anyway if the next-gen Wii can bring its level of gameplay up to Xbox standards and still retain all the fun aspects etc. then I admit it will be a very tempting option but until then I'll stick with Modern warfare on the Xbox :D

hmmm...you should try Tiger Woods 10 with MotionPlus. ;)
 
Ye, even the fit plus has this golf swing analysis thing. You would pay a fortune for that in real life.

Its pretty damn accurate, I have a really crap swing and it tells me exactly that. :)

OT, but as a golfer (single handicap) I can tell you the way draws and fades reflected with the Motion+ is amazing.

It does screw up your real swing a bit, because you can't cock and rotate your wrists completely - the remote is too big.

Well two craps maybe make you feel good but it still is not correct or 100%. For that you need a physic's engine and that Nintendo do not have.
 
Just a stupid question - it has always puzzled me when I read about sales figures (music, movies, etc...) The number of units sold - is that the number of units shipped from the manufacturer into the supply chain or is it the number of units bought by end users? If the latter, how accurate is it? Does Frikkie, the shop owner have to keep an extra cigarette box on quantities sold per product?

You thought that this would be how great the ps3 is.... if you really read the article you would see that it was more about how much ground the ps3 has to make up.
