Contemplating a Vasectomy-any advice?

Hi All

My wife's Mirena is coming out next year and we are contemplating which of us should get the "snip" for lack of a better word. The Dr. indicated that it is safer for me to get it as women carries a bigger health risk after the op. Having 2 kids in this crazy world is enough and I don't want to take any chances.

Any of you guys had these? any advice will be appreciated:
*Is it painful after the op and how long does it take to recover?
*does ejaculating feel different?
*does it have a big influence on your sex-life?
*anything else I should take into consideration or be on the lookout for?

Some mild pain down there for about a week or so. Nothing too bad.

*does ejaculating feel different?
Nope.

*does it have a big influence on your sex-life?
Nope.

* Sensitive for a couple of days, maybe a week at most
* No
* It didn't have a negative effect on ours, more positive since we didn't have to be careful.
* I had mine done 7 years ago, a couple of weeks after our the birth of our second minion. No regrets or ill effects so far. If you are sure, then go for it.

As per this guy, not a big thing at all. I had my vasectomy the Friday morning, next few days I had a mild dead sensation down there, no pain and by the Monday I was back at work. And afterwards everything feels exactly the same, besides the fact that you don't have the stress of worrying over more kids.

I had mine 4 years ago, also after the birth of our second one. No regrets for me as well.

Dude - same here.

Had mine done on a Thursday, drove home and back at work the next day.
You wont be running any races for a day or 2 but there was no pain (just discomfort) and everything still works as before ;-)

Not too bad, a bit of a mild pain for 3 or so days, but I was booked off for a week so lying on the couch watching TV was all I did

No, not at all

*does it have a big influence on your sex-life?
Yes, I have a much higher sex drive now. Good thing thing my conjugal partner has the same.

*anything else I should take into consideration or be on the lookout for?
None. Just don't be too active. Any sudden movements and it'll feel like someone kicked you in the nuts
 
add another to the list saying:
does not hurt much.
ejaculating feels the same.

definitely do it. best move ever.

Had mine done about 20 yrs ago. only 2 things to add
1. supplrt yur nuts in that recovery period. Best to stay on your back
2. When recovered jerk off a few times to empty that reserve

after that let it rip

My honest opinion here:

Wife had her tubes tied and she's now contemplating going for a full hysterectomy. She's fed up with the monthly cycle and all the other things. Speak to your wife openly, I'm sure it's a hard discision for her as she doesn't know she might want kids again further down the line and now the ball is in your court. If you guys have an open and frank discussion, I'm pretty confident she would select having the OP. Recovery time for a woman though is 6 weeks which is nasty, but she will love you forever after that 6 weeks :p
 
In the same boat as OP.

Our second child is now 12 weeks old and I need to go see the doc for the referral to the urologist.

Been delaying for a while. Read everything there is to read and even though it is clear that it is a routine procedure and almost painless, my body still shivers from the thought of doing it.

Dunno why.

I still took a 5 km walk the Saturday afternoon. But I'm also the same person that was stupid enough to walk through a vineyard choosing Sauvignon Blanc grapes 4 days after a hernia break operation, causing more pain than what the walk was worth. So I would advise to rather take it easy for a day or two.

And don't forget to get to tested to ensure the op was a success. Otherwise you might be in for a nasty surprise.

If you're up for it (what I did there <--- did you see?) you can give Karl Bremer hospital a call. Their vasectomies are free.

I do have medical aid (Bonitas) and they require a doctors referral to go to a specialist.

So its not a question of if, but when. :erm:

That's the one place you don't want just any mamparra to work, rather go to a proper doctor.
 
Did mine in July, slight discomfort for a few days but nothing major. I was at work the next day.

Ejaculation doesn't feel different. Sex increased. Expecting a further increase once all clear is given.

Biggest irritation was the stitches.
 
Thanks for the advice!

Will talk to the wife and see what our options are, luckily I still have a year before the Marina comes out.

Is there a age/weight limit before this needs to be done? I'm almost 40 and I have a few extra pounds around the belly.
