Convertibles

Not sure about EOS but my 335i convertible hardtop has not given me any roof mechanics issues. The only problem I have is I open my convertible many times and drive short distances to work. That turns to discharge the car battery quicker than it can recharge itself from driving.

I often park my convertible with roof down when I'm next to resturant or even in Braamfontein when I visit my barber. The only problem is people admiring it, asking me to close/open it. :D

I have had a 325 as well as a 328 convertible. Had each for about 3 yrs, both were purchased 2nd hand. In the time I had both (about 6yrs in total) I never ever had any problem with the roof in terms of mechanism or leaks. They were quite fine going through a mechanical car wash.
In summer, roof down is just bad, you get scorched by the sun if in slow moving traffic. Fantastic during the evenings.
I never had an incident where someone tried to damage the roof just for laughs.
In summertime in the evenings, when out, I would leave the roof down - my theory was if someone wanted to "break in" they could comfortably browse without damaging the roof or breaking a window - I would sometimes get back to the car at 4am (after a club or something) to find cars with broken windows near mine, but mine was fine !
Also, forget about leaving the roof down in summer in the afternoons when parked, the leather seats will toast your arse as soon as it makes contact with the seat !

I don't see how the speed you are travelling at would make a difference to exposure & burning?

well, not so much getting sunburnt - more a case of getting furiously hot in the car with very little breeze / wind to keep you cool in slow moving traffic.

Yes, without that cool breeze you would get rather hot & sweaty.

325i convertible e30 BMW, old but still a beast. Should be a handful around if you're in Cape Town. You can buy two/ three of 'em for your budget... and boy does she not play around.
