So I've been on Cool Ideas for the last few years and subsequently left with the issues they had towards the end of last year.

I had issues prior to their DDoS and it was never resolved and the DDoS was pretty much the final straw for me, so I moved to Home-Connect which has been horrific.

I haven't had a day without issues on Home-Connect from my line constantly disconnecting for 5 minutes, to speeds sub 5mb, to ping to local and international 10x what they should be. It's been horrific. Their online ticketing system either doesn't work or they just don't respond to me cause I've placed 15 or so tickets and no reply to anything yet.

So the question is - Who is next for a test?

Thanks!

Sorry if you did, but did you raise anything with me when you were having issues? Where did we fail either way?

I have this love-hate abusive relationship with Afrihost, but I can’t ever seem to leave them...

Honestly, all ISP‘s are shitt, some like CISP are just shittier than others.

Ok?

Have you maybe considered that the cable provider might be the issue?

OP - this is likely the cause of your issues - who is your FNO? Have you perhaps followed the breadcrumbs on that side of things? Is it easier for you perhaps going through all available ISP's in an effort to get to the bottom of your issue that seems to be ISP agnostic, on the vague info supplied?

I moved from Cool Ideas to Mind the Speed; it's been much better. A glitch maybe every few months, but quickly resolved.

@websquadza

By far the best ISP I have been with, if the option is available, go for Websquad.

I favor the smaller guys, they still treat their customers with respect.
Was with RocketNet and had no problems.
Mind the speed offer 2 months free and a lower monthly charge so I moved to them. Paid 0 for Nov and Dec, so had some extra holiday money.
Migration was smooth and got a better router for free.
No problems since 3 Jan 2020 and good performance.

Wish websquad offered 200mbps on openserve, been waiting for them to offer new packages for a while now.

I was with cisp on vumatel for 2 years and it was mostly a good experience, but i suspect that there was some minor packetloss on my line causing inconsistent single threaded speeds unrelated to cisp.

The good:
@PBCool and @TheRoDent
They can deal with most queries, including technical queries such as routing issues, in a timely fashion and communicate any issues on the network. Also they are frequently online on mybb, so massive props to them.

• Excellent international latency and a focus to prioritize it.

The bad:
• Official support channels are slow to deal with.

• For a while their network seemed to be wishy washy with stability, e.g. in 2019 it seemed like there were weekly carrier outages causing routing convergence and packetloss. However, their network seems to be fine as of this moment based on my experience on the openserve test account.

I moved about 6 months ago and switched to afrihost on openserve and the experience has been much better than it was on vumatel with cisp, however AH's routing is not great outside of london. I will be switching back to cisp next month because i know i can count on them to have great latencies.

@PBCool - I still have 15 odd tickets open. Once I had reported the problem, there was a level of acknowledgement and that was the end of it. Pretty much never had a response to anything again.

@ThatGuy_ZA - I've had Octotel out a few times. They've changed the box and tested the line and are beyond confident it's not them. I've changed my router several times too. When I do tracerts locally and internationally the issue and jump generally is at the ISP level. Not 100% of the time but it's fairly consistent.

@smc Thanks, man. I'll reach out to them. Much appreciated.

@r00igev@@r - Bold. :rolleyes:

Thanks

I have had numerous friends and family who have changed ISP more often than changing underpants and believe me, they have all expressed regret as there is either billing issues, connectivity issues or service issues.
I too was not a happy CISP client at one stage but listening to people who have jumped ship has jsutified my staying with Cool Ideas.
Different strokes for different folks I guess!

Hey, how did you get a test account on Cool Ideas?

I'm moving and will be picking a new ISP. I'm curious to see if I can test Afrihost vs Cool Ideas international on my current line to see what latency is like as I'm sure international latency and speed shouldn't change too much with different fiber providers.

If it does then my new line is probably just crap and that's a different battle to fight.
