Does anyone add extra cooling to their router?

Personally I have a small USB desktop fan blowing over mine, however I came across some people who take it a step further :D

Where did you get these from? I'd love to read the reasoning behind this...

This forum even has a thread devoted to it.

Used my Dremel on this one too. Added a 80mm fan and dropped temps from 65c to 44c. 21c temp drop is nice!

Without a fan my similar ASUS router gets very hot to the touch in summer.

lol, should probably do this with my lte router as it gets pretty much direct sun daily from around 12:30 till night time...

Something I need to cool is my DSTV HD decoder, that thing gets way too hot.

Got a dg834 something that gets fsck hot to the point where it freezes. Stuck a smallish heatsink to the main chip and left the cover off.

I have a an old P4 CPU cooler turned upside down on my router, i dont know why these things get so bloody hot.

It gets to 55c without the cooler.

My router has a USB port, so maybe I can get one of those small USB powered fans to cool it.

Don't think it's an issue at the moment, but I've read that overheating is one of the most common reasons for router failure.

Unless you are putting it inside a cupboard or some other enclosed space there shouldn't be any need for active cooling.
