Cop boss enraged over old flag

If it had been the case that she ONLY had the old flag in a prominent place I can see someone getting upset... but to have a small old flag alongside the bigger new one is obviously not a problem. Bheki Cele is being an idiot in this case.

Yeah, if the press wasn't around he probably wouldn't have made a scene. On the flipside if he ignored it the media probably would've spun another mountain out of this mole hill.

Yes, I know that but the majority of people alive today associate the flag with apartheid (perhaps better times for some) more than those who were around in the 1920s.

Precisely. It's obvious what the flag is associated with and thus understandable that most new South Africans, black or white, would take some sort of offense to it.
 
The ANC in KwaZulu-Natal welcomed the ruling and called on ARA to apologise to King Goodwill Zwelithini and the Zulu nation for "publicly degrading their culture".

"The ANC does not believe that the culture of uMkhosi Wokweshwama should have been called into question in the first place," it said in a statement.

"As the ANC we believe that no organisation should ever be allowed to dictate how other cultures should practise their traditions and customs."

The old flag is part of the heritage of most white South Africans, and was around long before apartheid even dreamed of ( apartheid was only 40 years long), so they can get fusked or go rip a bull apart for all I care.

typical though fighting crime is not working out so lekker, much easier to seem the big man intimidating some lowly office worker over a RELIC OF THE PAST ... D.O.O.S

Any person who takes offense to a flag or symbol is an idiot.

By that logic it's understandable if people take offense to the new flag. Quick remove it from public display :rolleyes:
 
I am actually suprised there is so much support for the old flag. The old flag was adopted in 1928, well before apartheid.

In 1961 after the republic was formed, there was pressure from Afrikaans groups to change it because it contained the Union Jack. Today, its mostly Afrikaans speaking white folk who feel anything for it, yet they wanted it changed for many years because of the Union Jack.

However, the fact that was adopted before apartheid, doesnt make it any less offensive to most South Africans because it is the symbol of a very miserable existence for them and they parents/grandparents etc.

Haha, too right Alan :D. I wonder if some people really think before they post statements like the one above. Why are so many people so quick to take offence these days? It's like a national sport...

I wonder how many innocent South Africans were murdered in the 60+ years when the old "offensive" flag flew compares with the number murdered in the mere 15 years the current flag has flown....
 
I saw some people waving a swastika outside Pretoria hall last week. I think there was some activities in that hall that day. Didn't really stop to observe what was happening.
