The bigger issue here is that both the minister and police chief were not aware that it is legal to display the old flag. I suggest that both resign as they are obviously not fit for their respective offices.

+1

The old flag even though hated by mostly everyone has never been made illegal. You can hang it up and there is not a thing anyone can do about it. Freedom of speech baby!

That's normal. How a german police officer will react if he finds a Svastika flag on a desk in the police station ?

:o

Not sure if they actually cared if it is legal or not. They think the are the law and can make and brake as they see fit.

Exactly. They are like the Mafia....or at least they think that they are:sick:

Who setup that poll? They are missing one option which a lot of people feel here which is:

No but I don't mind others displaying it if they want, as long as they do it in the privacy of their own home.

ROFL that picture is classic!

As a person of "colour" I dont see the old flag as a sign of aparthied at all but it doesnt leave a good taste in the mouths of many, so yes if you want to display things like that, its best you put it in your home, not in your office which is a public working space!

Have they never made a WWII movie in Germany?

What are their museums like?

I suppose using props is not the name as 'displaying'.

I believe they have made some movies. Not a lot. I can recall Das Boot offhand.

As for museums, yes. most of the WWII death camps are basically museums, I guess.

I know there is a Panzer museum in Munster, Germany, which a mate of mine has been to. Covers German armour from WWI to current.

The fact that the woman put the old flag in public proves that she was looking for confrontation. Realistically, was she expecting people to walk by and say "o wow you have the old flag". You dont show the swastika in public, you dont say evolution is a fact in a Christian setting, you dont mention american football to rugby fans, unless of course you want to start an argument. Even if the flag isnt illegal, it still a touchy issue among most South Africans and putting it in public will certainly touch a few nerves. I vote option 6 no but i dont mind if you display it in your house.

Oh please. It's a bit of coloured material. Mine is proudly displayed in my bar - alongside the new flag. Anyone who thinks they can erase history by removing a flag is a complete moron. Idiots.
