Johannesburg - Several charges, including one of high treason, are to be brought against a young man and a boy from Marble Hall in Limpopo after they peppered the police station in the town with a paintball gun.
The two, aged 17 and 18, apparently drove past the police station in a bakkie at about 00:50 and started firing at it.
No police either inside or outside the police station were hit, and no one was injured, but some vehicles, and the charge office, fell victim to the two younsters' paintballs - apparently a bright orange colour.
Police spokesperson Superintendent Mohale Ramatseba said slight damage was caused to two vehicles and the police station.
Teen was released
The police set off after the two young men and arrested them. The bakkie allegedly belongs to the parents of one of the two men.
Ramatseba said the police took possession of the paintball gun.
The 17-year-old is believed to have been released into his parents' care. His 18-year-old suspected comrade remains in custody until they both appear in court in Groblersdal, which is expected to happen on Monday.
Besides the charge of treason, the two are also charged with attempted murder, intentional damage to property and resisting arrest.
Ramatseba says shooting at the police station can be construed as an attack on the place, and that is why the treason charge was added.
