My Q9550 is still twiddling it's thumbs most of the time. No need to upgrade.
I7 LGA1366 is the way forward as then you can upgrade to the I9 when it comes out at not to much cost.

PCF December has the I5 on par if not slightly ahead of the I7 on Gaming performance. It appears gamers need not look further than I5 750?
I fully agree with you on that. Actually I am enjoying this a lot - cause when I told people not to go i7 and rather invest in AMD solutions they said they want top performance at all costs. Well now they can keep spending more each time they need to get a new platform for their new CPUs....wouldn't it just be much better getting a phenom 2 and all the money you save from not going I7/I5 putting that rather into a bigger gfx?
True - there are many other [-]excuses[/-] benefits to buy i7.
i7 has auto-overclocking. They called it TurboBoost or something. But the i5 also has some new features, eg the ability to overclock one CPU automatically, while slowing the other cores down - this is for applications that don't use the multiple cores.

Yes, I noticed later that the i7 can also do that.
