Core2 Duo or Core2 Quad?

Im hanging on till the new year to upgrade my mobo and proc, there are gonna be some good price cuts and new tech coming, the core 2's will be a thing of the past in not to long. i7 was just the tip of the ice burg :D

Just my opinion doesnt mean im right.

6 core i9 is coming next year.

A whole i7 build. Tell me where and I'll be there like a bear.
Budget,budget,budget.
Can get mother board(can handle 8GB ram), core2 quad,heatsink and fan, 2GB ram(for starters) for R2600

how much is a core2extreme new? Between 10k-15k right? I'm sure you can get an i7 system for that amount of money

Would think so, didn't realise it was that much. If i had that lying around i would have def hooked up an i7 already.
BUT :( the budget is keeping me back, sorry for me!!!

I still think with the GT300's on there way, another change in the Intel i series. all by start of next year.

I would hold out and after Christmas the shops will have clearance sales and and and.....

If you can you'll probably get a good price/perf deal.

anyhow personally I am very impatient and if thats your prob to, I am currently running the c2d e6400 clocked comfortably to 2.60 with 4GB ddr2 800 and the GTX275, there hasnt been one game I can't slap on my monitor on ultra high and 1920x1200, but will be getting a new mobo and proc next year.

after this upgrade, when do you think your next one will be. if it's gonna be some time away then the quad should be your choice without consideration.

Yeah, normal users don't need VT. It only improves CPU performance if running virtual machines. It also allows you to run another operating system in windowed mode.

VT will hardly improve performance for normal use - but it does enable certain technologies such as 64bit OS, and other features such as WindowsXP mode in Win7.

It would be a good decision to rather buy a CPU with VT, it will suck in 6 months when you need it and don't have it....
