Corolla or Cruze

one more vote for the cerato from me. go wild man, get the koup! :D

I really don't get why so many sheeple buy Toyota econo-boxes. Not only do you admit to yourself that you have lost your will to live by buying a Yaris or Corolla, you actively broadcast the fact to the rest of the world.
 
Chev cruze gets my vote.
Which is skewed of course, I tested the cerato and the cerato koup a while ago. Not a bad car, but not fantastic either.
Reviews on the cruz are pretty good, I have booked a test drive this week!!
The interior looks awesome!
 
The interior does look a hundred times better than both the Corolla and the Cerato.

The Cruze 1.6L does 80KW, the Cerato does 94KW. The Cruze LS (similar specced to the Cerato) costs R10K more, but only has a 3-yr/60,000 service plan, whilst the Cerato has a 4-yr/90,000km service plan.

On paper, there's no reason to choose the Cruze over the Cerato. It would have to boil to do aesthetic preferences IMO. And you'd be paying R10,000 more for that.
 
Interior looks are subjective.

I agree the R255 000 1.8l Cruze with the leather interior does look good although I prefer the interior of the 2.0l Cerato which is R50 000 less (R205 000).
The interior of the entry level cruze is just plain horrible imo, same seats and carpets from the spark..

Edit: Both are great cars, just please do not get the Corolla. That is siff.

Or drive/ride quality. Which, for me, is extremely important.
I didn't particularly like the ride quality in the kia, nor did i like the engine noise at higher revs.

Agreed. I'm fascinated that the Kia's ride quality was dissatisfying though, since it was on par with the Corolla, in terms of comfort and smoothness. I agree that the engine does become audibly whiny above 3500RPM, but that was quickly forgotten thanks to the other features and benefits which the Cerato has over its competitors.
 
The Cerato is an awesome car and offers excellent value for money.

My work colleague just got the 2.0l Koup, and I have to say that as a die-hard fan of German cars, I was seriously impressed with the build quality and standard features (many of which are optional extras on my A3 2.0T). If I was looking for a new car in this segment, I'd definitely fork out for the Cerato. Although the power doesn't quite feel as much as it is quoted in the specs, it's something I could live with because it's not exactly a slouch.
 
@SHUBZ. The Toyota MMT gearbox is a manual gearbox, with a clutch, that is electronically controlled and therefore does not have a clutch pedal. It is not a sequential box and therefore does not require you to adapt your driving style. Google "Toyota MMT gearbox". There are lots of reports on the net. The forerunner to this concept was the Saxomat gearbox as used in the DKW and Auto Union of the 1950's.
 
As I've mentioned before, my only beef with the Cerato 2l is that there's no option not to have leather seats. Then again, I'm sure that this is a very minority opinion, as most people see leather seats as a big plus. So leather notwithstanding, I also say go for the Cerato.

It is the same with the big engined cruze and corolla. The big engined models come with leather.

When we bought our old shape Corolla as brand new few years ago, we selected the leather option. It was sent to a local store to get done and the old fabric cover was also returned and there was a leaflet from the leather-seat installer also in the car.

Get a good upholsterer and you good.

Numbers do not lie so my vote goes to the Cruze. Even if the specs were not presented though I would still have chose the Cruze.
 
Ok so I decided to go with the toyota test drove it and getting the Corolla 1.6 vvti with the M-MT gearbox tomorrow. Test drove the Cruze as well simply hated the cheap dashboard feel and high engine noise.
