Where is the differentiation? When does Corporal punishment become child abuse. The whole corporal punishment legitimises the whole 'He/She deserved to be bliksemmed'

It was always simple in my school days: has the child been told NOT to do X, why he shouldn't, and what the consequences would be if he did? Note I say "he" on purpose - I never even heard of a girl getting jacked. And if he did the forbidden action was he given a final warning before corporal punishment was handed out after the next infringement?

Don't get me wrong: some teachers/headmasters are high strung - 30+ kids in your class who really should all have been disciplined at home by their parents so that you can just get on with your job. There's now one or two regular offenders wasting your and the other kids' time - and they don't heed any of your warnings. So what do you do? You really just want to get on with your job, get through your lesson plans for the day, so you can start preparing for the next, but now you have to stop what you're doing AGAIN because Johnny is being an annoying little **** again. Talking to him clearly isn't helping anymore. So what do you do? Probably what mine used to when kids got out of hand: grab the metre-long wooden ruler on the chalkboard rail and ask you to step outside for a quiet word. You got your hiding, apologised, and sat down quietly and got on with it. At break your friends would ask if it hurt, etc, but surprise surprise: you didn't die, and weren't emotionally scarred for life! You probably didn't tell your parents either, lest you got on your moer at home, too.

But there are also those who just lose the plot - clearly in your case that's what happened. And I'm pretty sure it wasn't every teacher in your school, either. My first experience with one was in Sub A - her name was Ms. Jackson. She would randomly dispense justice with whatever she had in her hand. In my case, it was a thick book across the back of my head. My parents kicked off and went to the school and threatened to kick her head in (or something) if it ever happened again. They said I had a bum if I ever needed to be punished. It never happened again to anyone in my class.

Some children ARE disciplined at home, but have a naughty streak when away from home - some more than others. CP just kept them in line I guess. I had a bit of that. But I was also bored at school - and would get distracted sometimes. Today that's called ADD. But I wasn't given Ritalin - I was politely asked to step outside for a quiet word.
 
I'm strongly opposed to any form of punishment that's not imposed by an objective 3rd party.

Teachers acting as judge and executioners cannot be good, it certainly was one of my first experiences of corrupt authority

Girls got hit on the knuckles with typically wooden rulers - not all teachers, but I would put a rough number at 40% of the teachers dispensed discipline regularly.

If the CP system was more structured as 'Parent had to be present, it was documented and only given by one teacher/headmaster and the teacher that wanted the dicipline was present to explain to you what happened' - The kid should have the opportunity to state why they should not get jacks - only then I may be swayed.

Most teachers think they are the centre of it all - but alot of the times the teaching manner is boring and as you said - kids get distracted. Is it the kids fault or the teachers fault ? Should the kid get jacks for being distracted when the teacher is clearly crap or hates their job.

There is a difference to me using violence for discipline .. and using violence to making someone compliant and not question the status-quo. I got jacks for 'Making a teacher look like a fool' in class when she was teaching crap.. and I corrected her disinformation.

I do remember the good teachers never gave jacks, and everyone got good marks...

I got jacked many times at school for being a naughty little shyte,smoking,bunking school, fighting and not doing homework etc.
One thing I never did was go home and tell my ole man if I was in the wrong. If I was in the right then all hell would break loose.

I am clearly remember an incident when my son was in boarding at high school and got punched in the chest by a teacher. My boy called me before the teacher could and explained exactly what happened, just after that the house master called and wanted to see me.

On arriving I listened to both sides of the story where my son, after being punched grabbed the teacher by his shirt and pushed him up against the wall and threatened to hit him.

In front of the master I gave my boy full permission to whack the teacher should he ever lift his hands to him again and I would do the same. I said to the teacher you can give him cuts if he misbehaves but never ever lift your hands to him.

This same teacher was assaulted at another high school for doing exactly the same thing. The teacher was fired from that school.

Caning never did me no harm.
 
Brings up the question of this.
Teachers who are attacked and abused by pupils who are completely aware that they are safe to do so given the current laws.
Personally
i believe in corporal punishment
i believe in two years manadatory army
Its the a-typical example of millenial behaviour
