Could this be a SCAM?? 😭

Today I was called by an ex-colleague who said that a Lisa Michaels from Home Affairs in Pretoria (if she exists, let me know, older white female) was trying to get a hold of my husband, and needed to know where he currently works or lives.

I received a message from Home Affairs this morning, so I didn’t think anything suspicious was happening. I gave her permission to give this Lisa lady my number and she called me.

She gave me details about my husband such as a past address and where he use to work and said that she needed to send down a list ID if his via courier.
She said that his lost ID was sent to Pretoria HA, and they wanted to send it back.
His bag of as stolen last year, so I perhaps thought an old ID was retrieved through that event.

I stupidly said that’s fine, and confirmed and address so it could be sent.

She never requested any banking details, so nothing shouted “SCAM” to me.

My husband got home and said that he never lost an ID in his life and all my red flags went up.

Help! What could potentially happen now that I have given an address away? 😭😣

I’m super stressed.

This is free, you get 1 or 2 reports a year or something like that. It will tell you if anyone has tried to buy anything on credit using your ID, or registered a company etc.

I used this as someone at a hotel copied my ID <-- which they all do, and then used it to buy a cellphone! how retarded of Vodacom to hand out new cellphones to some clown just showing an ID. Anyway I found it on here.

ID copy is needed to take a cell phone as an example. Proof of address can be made up, but if they have yours then all the better in case Vodacom or the likes want to double check it under ownership, but not needed.

Don't stress, giving out your ID number or address is normal, how many websites ask for this? every...single...one when doing verification or any online purchase etc.

I'm sure it's fine, and if you notice anything weird on your credit check you can flag it and they will advise you, or you can contact the company on the list yourself.

Yeah debt collector or private detective makes the most sense. I guess you will find out why they are looking for him soon enough. Probably his other wife looking for child support.

The idea that Home Affairs gives 2 craps about helping someone be reunited with their lost ID is the most unbelievable part of this story.

Most of us are just trying to be helpful. The more I read your post the more convinced I am someone is tracing him for some reason or another and trying to get his current work or home address to serve papers on him. These guys are very clever at tracing people and come up with some ingenious methods to get people to cough up information using emotional manipulation. The fact they recited previous addresses means they have access to his credit profile which has all of that information.
