Countdown to vape free year (Help)

Thanks man. Nah, tried Allen when I wanted to quit smoking, and did nothing for me (had the audio and even went to one of the classes). My heart ****ing out in 2018 was all the motivation I needed to stop for good. Just to get into the same mindset for this now.

And off the wagon (again). Didn’t even take that long - 12hrs, maybe? Had some bullshit meeting this morning I couldn’t focus on at all, and that was all it took. Now I’m back to hating myself for failing (again). I just need to rethink my strategy, focus, and tough it out next time.

Vape is currently in a drawer in the bedroom, out of sight, out of mind, something like that. Been keeping it in a separate area so that it’s a las to get up and vape every time, but it still catches my eye when I get up to go for a pee or get something from the kitchen. Already banned myself from vaping while I’m sitting working, or on the couch watching TV, or having a crap (used to be my favourite time to have a cigarette, second only to the first one with a cup of coffee in the morning).

We go on, until next time, which will hopefully be the last one.

It's not a failure at all, we are all human after all so dont beat yourself up. My advice, if you really really want to stop smoking is to go outside with your vape, sit in a comfortable spot, take a couple of puffs whilst you say your last goodbyes and then throw it away.

Just remember that "craving" that you have is not really a craving, it's your brain trying to trick you and trust me, that craving that you feel at that moment does not last long, not even 10min and Im sure you are strong enough to do something else in that 10mins. It is sometimes difficult, not going to lie about it but when you look back in 2 weeks you will realise how dumb it was to actually smoke.

Sit with the mindset that it is going to be easy most of the time but also that sometimes might be difficult but dont let a meeting or phone call or anything like that just trigger you to reach for something you THINK will help, it doesn't help, you are tricking yourself into believing that it will help.

Say your last goodbyes and throw it far away, everything you have that you can smoke, get rid of it and do something constructive in the time when you have a craving.

The most important part is the fact that you yourself must WANT to stop, if not, you will fail and fail every time.

The thing about vaping is you're in complete control over the nicotine content. If you gradually lower it over the course of a month or three you'll eventually get to the point where your body is no longer craving it.

Update Mr Voice ?
Actually forgot lol. Vape free since 1 December 2024. Had a once in a lifetime opportunity to go to Australia in January 2025, so had no choice but to quit because of their weird vaping laws. Anyway, got to day three and was losing my mind, but instead of going out and getting new vape kit, I found an old nicotine spray in a drawer, and used that instead. It worked, because I haven't touched a vape in more than a year...

BUT, I'm now addicted to the bloody spray lol, so my quit for that is coming up at the end of this month. Then I'll be nicotine free for the first time in over 30 years.

I’ve resigned myself to the fact that as long as my wife keeps on vaping and it remains so accessible I’m in a losing battle.

I can go away on a trip for a week or two and have absolutely zero problem putting it down and leaving it at home, but then come back and it slowly ramps up.

Biggest issue with vaping is the fact that it’s in door friendly, whereas smoking forced her outside and so it was very rare I would tag along to have a smoke.

Good to hear man! I got myself nicotine gum and used it the first night when I ran out of juice basically and have been cold turkey since Tuesday because I don't want to get addicted to the gums xD

Man looking now I have been revving the living shyt out of this thing...after I shower, movie etc etc.

The only thing that really helps it out of sight, out of mind. The nicotine spray, for example, is currently in the postbox on the ground floor (I live on the third floor), so I really have to want it to go all the way down and back up again.

****, only found this thread now, I have been trying to stop vaping for a while now but finding it harder than when I have stopped before. My wife also vapes, I didn't for a few years and then **** hit the fan when I got retrenched, stress, had a few puffs and here we are, the struggle continues...

What does the wife say about quitting with you possibly?

Love reading these.

We all do stuff that negatively affects us.
And some of us try to be better each day.

My kak was credit/debt. Next week marks 3 months of having no credit card.

One thing that helped me was the constant conversations regarding my bad habbit and holding myself to a higher standard.

Now to each their own, we are somewhat anonymous on here. We can lie and stuff. But when we comment here, we know the truths/lies we comment.

I can fook out and get a credit card Monday. But then all my "preachiness" would hold no ground.

Good luck to y'all in getting rid of kak habbits.
Maybe having a conversation here helps with that. Keep the conversation going.
