No bail for KFC accused
Pretoria - Three of the five men accused of assaulting a couple at a KFC drive-through in Montana, Pretoria earlier this month have been denied bail.
Stephan Nel, 39, Joshua Schultz, 21, and DJ van Rooyen, 21, along with Ockert Muller, 20, and Marius Harding, 23, are accused of allegedly attacking a couple at a drive-through in the early hours of August 3.
They are facing charges of attempted murder, assault with the intent to cause grievous bodily harm, and pointing of a firearm.
Muller has already been released on bail while Harding has abandoned his bid for bail.
The attack was caught on video.
It was also alleged by the defence that the complainants were the aggressors in the incident.
The court also heard that the couple's injuries were "neither serious nor life threatening".

Pretoria - Three of the men accused of assaulting a couple at a KFC drive-through in Montana, Pretoria, were granted bail on Tuesday after successfully appealing a ruling by the Pretoria North Magistrate’s court denying them bail in August.
North Gauteng High Court Acting Judge Andre Petersen overturned the lower court's decision, and granted bail of R5 000 each to DJ van Rooyen, Stephan Nel and Joshua Schultz.
He also ordered that the accused not interfere with any State witnesses or go to the Kollanade shopping centre, where the incident took place.
The High Court was of the opinion that Magistrate Mothloki Rapulana had erred in refusing bail, Netwerk24 reported.
Intimidate witnesses
Van Rooyen's attorney, Lizl van Jaarsveldt, said Petersen had found Rapulana was misguided in certain interpretations of the law, according to the report.
In refusing bail, Rapulana said the accused had failed to prove it was in the interest of justice to release them on bail. In refusing their application, she said that there was a likelihood that‚ if released‚ the accused may interfere with and intimidate witnesses.
She added that there would be a public outcry if they were released.
The three accused, along with Ockert Muller and Marius Harding, allegedly assaulted the complainants during the early hours of August 3 at a KFC drive-through. Parts of the alleged attack were filmed and subsequently went viral on social media.

Pretoria – Marius Harding, the only KFC assault co-accused still in custody, has claimed that he has been the victim of multiple assaults and theft at Kgosi Mampuru II prison.
Harding, as well as DJ van Rooyen, Stephan Nel, Joshua Schultz and Ockert Muller, are charged with allegedly assaulting a couple during the early hours of August 3 at a KFC drive-through in Montana, Pretoria.
The Pretoria North Magistrate’s Court heard on Thursday that Harding had been assaulted on different occasions at the correctional facility and that his belongings had been stolen.
Harding’s attorney Nols Nolte told the court: "He has been assaulted on various occasions, his stuff has been stolen and the individuals at the institution does not want to assist him to lay charges or assist him with [a] transfer request," said Nolte.
Nolte asked for the court’s assistance after Harding told him of the alleged assaults and theft.
Harding is the only accused who is not out on bail. Van Rooyen, Nel and Schultz, who were initially denied bail by magistrate Mothloki Rapulana, had the decision overturned by a High Court last month.

I had a family go to jail many years back, also for assault. Nobody had any sympathy for him in the family. You do the crime, you do the time.
