Crawford Pre-Primaries

We live just behind Crawford and all I can tell you, the parents are much to snobby for my liking :)

Hate Crawford kids. Not to be a stereotype but they all seem to get life handed to them in a platter. Arrogant kids 2.Send them to a normal school so they get a taste of both 'lives'.

Yeah, I have a friend that went to the school... no one comes out normal from it ha ha

rather send you kiddies to a good public school, or a quiet private school...

Public schools will teach your kid to see the world in many different shade of wealth...

Private school for the better (and possibly more reliable) teachers.

This is a common perception. Though most of my friends waiter'ed or did some kind of work to earn money. While my friends from public school complained how lucky we were and how they have no money. I was never given tuck money, pocket money etc i was expected to earn money for my self.

I see no reason NOT to send your kid to Crawford. I went to Crawford from 1 - 12. At Crawford you are treated like an adult from day 1.
What i have found its the people who are jealous of Crawford seem to think its a school for snobs or something. Crawford is one of the top academic schools in the country they don't care if you wish to grow your hair long, you can wear a very open uniform(any black or white shoes etc.) they are more worried about your marks than any of this other petty stuff.

None of this rubbish where the grade 8's are matric slaves or have to call them by there surnames. We weren't expected to do everything matrics wanted in grade 8. They earned our respect normally not forced upon us. From my experiences now that i'm at uni its the kids from other school who tend to let loose after school, eye brow rings, long hair etc they have lived there whole lives in a strict rule based environment and tend to let loose after school.

I know one or two people from crawford, and although it is a very posh school, it seems to be a pretty good and grounded school. I cant really fault the people that come out of Crawford.
Isnt Crawford semi-private though? As in at the end they still write government exams? I think I was told that once but I could be wrong. Not that that is really important though, as this is just pre-primary that you are asking about.

It is a good school. I do not think any of the posters disputed it, and neither did I :)

What I said whas that the PARENTS act in a rather snobbish way ... since we live close to the school I have had the opportunity to observe behaviour.

I think thats probably the case though at most upmarket schools. Shouldnt really have an affect on your choice though. You are sending your kids there to learn most of all, not to socialise with their classmates' parents.

Private schools in SA have always created an image to be something they are not, I don't get how the children can be of a better product when they do the same syllabus as the public schools does even the IEB schools get taught out of the same science test book. Send your kid to a good model C school, save yourself money and don't kid yourself he won't have a better education by going to crawford then he will when he goes to Affies, Menlo Park, Die Wilgers, Pretoria Boys high, Willow Ridge or any other decent school in your area :) They all have to apply for the same varsity at the end of the day and that is really what matters.

Nephew went to Crawford for his senior primary. Biggest mistake his mother ever made. As far as I can tell it stunted his growth and we are now concerned, even in a modern matric climate, how well he'll do in Matric next year. Although I beleive that branch closed so no surprise really.

I think the Model C's are still fine and good.

Well said, and true about using the same text book. Nothing wrong with "former model c schools", I went to one and I didnt turn out a wreck.... :D

Actually for primary schools nowadays I would recommend a duel medium one like Anton van Wouw or Meyerspark Laerskool. I know that La Montange and Lynwood ridge are two english ones, while Skuilkrans, Pretoria Oos and Lynwood learskool are Afrikaans ones, I recommend any of these, their teachers are of great quality. (These are all in the eastern side). Reason being for duel medium is that Pretoria is still very much Afrikaans, while the world is tending towards English, your child will get the best of two languages, he will be in a better position in a multi lingual South Africa than when he focuses on only one, after his basics are set you can basically send him to any high school of his choice, it gives him quite an advantage, children learn languages easier than adults do :)

Whats the difference between a duel medium school and parallel medium school?
I was in a parallel medium school, so there were english and afrikaans guys on one school ground, but we were tought in our home languages. The rest was combined.

interesting I should ask for costs and get morale arguments about the school.

all the issues people have about crawford kids are about how parents raise their children.

schools don't make people, it's how they are raised. it's not like public schools don't raise ****ty kids. get over it guys.

duel medium teaches them in both English and Afrikaans, while parallel medium separates them.

Way too expensive... Rather send them to Crawford for High School, if you really want to send them to a private place

Treating people less fortunate than yourself like crap, is not something you "get over". It's inappropriate.
