Cricket : India vs SA - 2008

probably should look to bat through. i don't imagine there will be a strong rearguard action from the remaining fellas. either that or tell AB to blitz it tomorrow morning and see what happens.

Smith declared overnight. 418 ahead.
India 16/0.
Sehwag smacked Steyn for 2 sixes in the 1st over.

Got him
V Sehwag lbw b Ntini 17 (20b 1x4 2x6) SR: 85.00

Okay, if I was Smith which, thanks god, I'm not, I wouldn't have declared. Either way though, this test is only going one way, and we won't be batting again.

i wouldn't either.
Fortunately India are 3 down, and they're only playing 5 batsmen.

why would u not declare?

im glad smith is looking to win tests finally

declare and chase down what they post

418 is massive lead and not declaring would be stupid

Hmm I see the negative sentiments even spill over into the sports forum... what exactly is the problem with Smith?

So if the test is only going one way then why would you not have declared? Play was delayed by 30 minutes this morning due to damp conditions, any captain with an over 400 run lead and even the slightest understanding of cricket would have declared and tried to make use of the conditions.....

3 wickets down seems to vindicate this decision!

We could have had a slog this morning for 30 min or so.
Still 3 days left on a flat wicket.

Either decision would be the right one in this case though.
If 2 more wickets fall, it'll be over soon after.

yea that leaves us 3 days to bowl them out and chase down they score if needed but i doubt it

this match is in the bag

when u score 79 all out your generally going to lose :)

This is true. Should close it out pretty soon. Almost impossible to lose from here. A draw would need some amazing feat of batting on their part.

i think they should have played on for as long as possible purely for the purely selfish reason that the game would last longer and i would perhaps get to listen to cricket early in the morning

now i will be surprised if the game makes tomorrow
a pox on this compulsion to win :)

I am glad that we are playing positive. The longer we batted , the more life would have been lost in the pitch negating the advantage there for our seamers.

So I am glad they started playing positive. Now only Ganguly and Dhoni last of the real recognised batsmen, before we can get at Pathan and the rest of the lower order.
