Cricket : India vs SA - 2008

I agree with you 100%, its always a lottery touring in the sub continent where evrything hinges on winning the toss. Cause no matter what people say even Paul Harris bowling last on a dodgy pitch will cause problems to those FTB's of India.

FTB?

FTB = Flat Track Bully, term used when batsmans look so good when the pitches is flat and doing nothing, but put them on a pitch with a little seam and bounce or swing (or even sharp turn) and they struggle.

I hope it severely backfires on the Indians. Cowards. Seems like they are to a large degree not capable of playing on good pitches, hence resorting to cabbage patches to win matches. Pathetic. Not the sign of a good team at all.

We did the same thing here.... prepare a green grassy wicket and then bowl any team from the sub continent into oblivion....thats why we convinced(sp?)
ourselves that we didnt need a spinner because our pace attack is GREAT....

but all credit to the grounds-men who prepared the wickets for the tests last year at home.... it had alot more to offer spinners, the one wicket even started turning sideways on day 4, something unheard of in SA.

Also the ausies are the best because in Aus you will find all types of wickets and thats why they addapt so quickly to any other countries pitches.

All pitches should be the way ours are. Cricket should not be played on cabbage patches, sorry.

Sehwag likes to score all his runs in one innings and then nothing for the rest of the series. I prefer those that score less but are consistent. Gayle is similar.

LMAO, then spinners would never feature and any idiot that can bowl at 140 + would be great....thats like saying everyone in the world sould dress the same....wake up thats why we havnt won a world cup because we get knocked out on pitches that are slow...this is good for us!! we can show the world that we have learnt how to atleast play spin a bit better in the last couple of months...

Being the best is being able to win on any track / pitch.... only being able to do it on your conditions makes you robert mugabe :p

Well this time we have to hope Biff can win the toss at least , because that would determine a great deal who bats last.

See Andre Nel, for example. :D

I like the fact that there're different types of pitches, and that some teams play better than others on some types of pitch. It gives the games character.

Though I agree with your earlier point about Australian pitches, Devill. That's what we should be aiming for.

Nope, there are many fast bowlers who are crap. Your comparison is not the same to cricket. We get knocked out of world cups because we choke. It's not the pitches.
We simply don't have any good spinners in this country. Blaming the pitches might be part of the problem, but the real problem is that the youth are not coached into spinning. Everything is pace pace pace. Get some decent spinning potential and then we can look at other things. Though I do agree that a little bit of variety in the pitches won't hurt.

Its a chicken and egg thing. We'll never have good spinners until we have good spinning pitches. We won't create good spinning pitches because we've got no spinners.

that was my point in a nut shell;) why do you only agree with my statement about aus pitchs :p

i really do like the fact that on turning wickets its a diffrent game and then some teams play better on them....eg bangladesh are very competative on a slow low wicket.....but on a green grassy wicket they are not of any danger to anyone of the test playing countries(barring zim :p)

what would you rather do if you had a choice? earn lots of money or very little money?

Same thing in SA cricket no spinner friendly wickets thus no youth thinking to himself "lets bowl spin and get 1 wicket if i can bowl fast and take 5"

Also the franchises spend alot more on training pace bowlers than spinners because they know that the pace men take alot more wickets in SA.....

if no soldiers are volunteering then you cant train them now can you.

also we are not chokers .....438 game proved that.....

I don't completely disagree, but we have to ask why people like Thandi Tshabalala is a good spinner and the others can't bowl as well as he does? Surely it can't just be the pitches, but also the quality of the individual. People bowl pace cos that's the natural thing to do. When you first started playing cricket, how did you bowl? Pace. I guess we grow up into that tradition of fast bowling and we carry it on for most of our lives. Very few people ever take up spin. We need to encourage more youngsters to start spinning. I was watching a 20/20 last week and some guy was spinning the ball like crazy. Can't remember if it was Tshabalala.

EDIT: 438 was one game. Lets look at how many competitions we were knocked out of, in the crucial stages. Basically all the world cups cos we choke.

Even if we lose the toss, we can still bowl them out on day 1.
Then bat for 2 days, and let them enjoy their crumbled pitch.
Not so green, this park

Big picture
Kanpur's Green Park is known to produce more draws than results - 12 in 19 Tests to be precise - but after India's embarrassing submission on a green first-day Ahmedabad pitch, the groundstaff have reportedly prepared a turner to try and suit what has traditionally been India's strength - spin. Trailing 0-1 going into the final Test, India are up against it and may rely on a three-pronged spin attack to level the series.

The pitch looks extremely dry and has no grass cover. Anil Kumble and the curator felt it would break as early as the third day and assist spin from there on. Gary Kirsten, India's coach, is reported to have been taken aback by the track on first inspection. If all predictions hold true, neither side will want to bat last. The toss will be extremely crucial.

The bounce is expected to be on the lower side which, given Dale Steyn's raw pace, could also work in South Africa's favour. If they win then Graeme Smith will become his country's most successful captain after equalling Hansie Cronje's record of 27 victories in Ahmedabad. South Africa will also be the first side to win in India since Australia in 2004.

The groundsman says , this is definitely a result orientatd pitch he has prepared there.

I think as soon as India went out for 76 in the 1st innings of the 2nd test they were on the horn with the groundsman saying stop watering the square.
