IMNHO I think that batting out our innings would have been more ruthless, more Australian. But I guess winning in three days or winnning by an innnings and 270 runs probably have about the same amount of ruth in them.

London - South Africa all-rounder Jacques Kallis was on Wednesday named as the "Leading Cricketer in the World for 2007" by the 2008 edition of Wisden Cricketers' Almanack, cricket's major annual reference work.

He became the fifth recipient of the award, introduced in 2004, after Australia's Ricky Ponting and Shane Warne, Andrew Flintoff of England and, last year, Muttiah Muralitharan of Sri Lanka.

The talented batsman and pace bowler won the award for his 1 210 Test runs at a staggering average of 86.42 and 20 wickets at an economical average of 25.75 apiece.

Test continues despite threat

India - India and South Africa enter the third and final Test on Friday with the series on the line, and having to deal with the threat of a reported terrorist plot against the match.

Security was bolstered after police sources said that they had intelligence of a planned attack in the northern Indian city by Islamic terrorists.

Despite the threat, both teams must attempt to concentrate fully on a game that will decide the series. South Africa leads 1-0 after two Tests, having drawn the series opener and won the second by an innings and 90 runs - India's heaviest home defeat since 1959.

The dry surface of the Green Park Stadium's pitch was already displaying cracks on Thursday on the eve of the Test, bringing smiles to the Indian team which expects the drying track to aid its spinners while negating South Africa's in-form seamers.

South Africa, which is one of two teams to have defeated India in a home series in the past decade, will move to No. 2 behind Australia in the ICC's Test rankings if it can avoid defeat in Kanpur.

I hope it severely backfires on the Indians. Cowards. Seems like they are to a large degree not capable of playing on good pitches, hence resorting to cabbage patches to win matches. Pathetic. Not the sign of a good team at all.

Well, a cracked pitch is going to make Harbajhan and Kumble a little more tricky. It's going to make Steyn a little more unpredictable as well.

Harbajhan / Kumble at 80km/h may take more wickets.
Steyn at 150km/h is going to be taking heads off.

I agree with you 100%, its always a lottery touring in the sub continent where evrything hinges on winning the toss. Cause no matter what people say even Paul Harris bowling last on a dodgy pitch will cause problems to those FTB's of India.

Except even Steyn won't know which limb/organ the ball will remove. One ball will be aimed at the throat and will stay low, thus removing the gonads. The next ball will be aimed at the same spot, miss all the cracks and remove an eye.

Should be fun to watch.
