Kind of the same way you don't take extra runs when the ball touches you or the bat on a throw at the stumps (unless it goes to the boundary then there's no choice). The batsman thought the ball was dead once it had hit him...even goes to pick it up and throw it back because he thinks it's dead.

Within the rules but unsporting.

If you stay in your crease you don't have to worry about "unsporting".
